I think the main beach is about 5 miles and bloody bay is about 2 miles...
I think Lorax is correct, I remember reading that main beach is 4.87 miles and Bloody Bay is 2 miles.
I think it is 7 KILOMETERS. Not 7 miles.....
in my experience it is much further possibly due to the two steps forward and one step back our beach walks often take lol
it's around 7 miles total including Bloody Bay and Long Bay
If you check Google Maps, it is actually just over 4 miles from the River to Rutland Point. But, there is nothing wrong with calling it the 7-mile beach, if you ask me. As we all know, not everything is as it seems in Negril anyway!
I do 5 mile walks at home and did this walk in bare feet on the sand so I would think I would be really tired? Maybe it's the energy and the great beach environment along with Red Stripe stops along the way.
I hear ya Brian,I really don't care but I dont want to get back and say to myself I just walked 12 miles and puff out my chest to my wife.
The name "Seven Mile Beach" seems to have come from an old advertisement by the Jamaica Tourist Board (or their previous organizational name) that stated there was "seven miles of beach in Negril". This count included the beaches as far north as what is called "little bloody bay", Bloody Bay, Long Bay (the main long beach) as well as the beach areas located on the West End by Canoe (Mary Bay) and the small beach next to Swordfish Restaurant. In total, they added up to approximately seven miles as the advert stated.
As people tend to like to simplify things, the "seven miles of beach" soon became simply the "Seven Mile Beach" that we know today and refers to the main Negril beach of Long Bay.
According to the "Path" tool on Google Earth....
From Delroy's Bar at Hedonism II to where the Negril Craft Market is located would be a 4.33 mile walk and this includes the time spent on the path by the road around John Issa's Villa. Bloody Bay is 1.32 miles for a grand total of 5.65 miles. Great marketing!!!
Those red stripe stops definitely help
So, back in the day, before the marketing department got involved, what was the beach called? Negril Beach? Long Bay Beach and Bloody Bay Beach? Just "The" Beach?
just the beach by the river.......
walking in a zig-zag direction adds up the 'ol miles.........
Happy T Day
If you walk like an Egyption it takes even longer and folks stare.
From Club RUI to MiYard is 12 Kilometers = 7.2 miles That's the last little piece of beach before the Cliffs at the bottom of Tigress Lane.
A nice walk..
the walk is even longer when your "holdin your gut in".........almost gets black n blue in a 10 day stay...lol
Happy T Day
