How do you keep the ice frozen?? and other stupid questions...
Seriously - the fridge we'll have is just a small bar fridge, I don't think it has a freezer. Just wonder what all you experts do to keep the ice from melting :)
Does anyone know if you can buy Frangelico at the HiLo or Wise Choice? We can only bring 1L PP of alcohol in to Jamaica correct? We plan on hitting the duty free at the airport in TO, but they don't have Frangelico... I know they have it in the bars in Negril, hoping they have it at the store as well...
More stupid questions to come (as they come to me)...

Re: How do you keep the ice frozen?? and other stupid questions...
We bring a collapsable cooler and just get ice from the hotel a couple times a day. Most of those little fridges have a small freezer on top.

Re: How do you keep the ice frozen?? and other stupid questions...
Country Country has a small freezer. I'd take the ice bucket to the bar for ice, then put some in a ziplock bag in the freezer to use as needed. Repeat. No problem mon!
Can't help with your other question, I stuck to red stripe, coco mania rum & rum cream!

P.s. don't forget to tip the security guards at your hotels. My friend Jason at Country Country works 60 hours a week and makes $500/month before taxes. Covers rent, taxis to/from work and bills (if he's lucky). Doesn't leave much left for food. They don't get paid holidays, if he takes days off it comes off that $500/month. His family lives in St Elizabeth, but he hardly ever gets to see them b/c he can't afford to take the time off work.

If you'd like to get a fantastic massage from a healing Rasta lady, ask Jason to hook you up with Monica. She charges about $80 but I asked Jason if she'd do it for $1/minute, same as they charge at other places on the beach, she agreed. Asked for 50 minutes, but she kept on going until she was done with you (as long as you needed it). I gave her a bit more as a tip. She fixed up both my friend and me. She comes to you and will set up on your patio, the beach, or in your cottage, we opted for our patio. Here's a photo of her on the beach, lovely woman:

Re: How do you keep the ice frozen?? and other stupid questions...
our driver picks us up at the airport complete with a cooler with R/S on ice, we stay at ROOMS but you have to pay extra for a small bar fridge, buy a cooler or bring a large soft cooler , with a few small garbage bags to prevent leakage, soon come

Re: How do you keep the ice frozen?? and other stupid questions...
If you can't find it you might ask someone at a liquor store to order it for you. A friend was looking for Jaeger about 2 years ago and asked John at the Shamrock if he had it. He didn't stock it but said he could order it. 2 days later she was enjoying her Jaeger bombs on the beach.

Re: How do you keep the ice frozen?? and other stupid questions...
If it is for something special, you might try asking the resort. One year when we were staying at Xtabi, we had an item that needed to be kept frozen. You are right, the small frig freezer is generally too small. Anyhow, they bagged it up, put our name on it and keep it in their freezer until we needed it. It's worth asking and of course, a tip generally is appreciated. Good luck!

Re: How do you keep the ice frozen?? and other stupid questions...
Buy ice cube trays at garage sales. They fit easily in your luggage. Usually ,if you do have a fridge with a freezer ,there isnt much for ice cube trays inside it. Leave the trays behind

Re: How do you keep the ice frozen?? and other stupid questions...
Our cab driver Wayne always brings a cooler of RS to the airport and he lets us keep it for our stay. We bring a bag and small cooler for beach and patio drinking. Also we bring ice trays and baggies to make ice. This year we will be at a different resort and will have a small fridge. Between RS and Rum drinks we always need more ice than we can make. One to two bag's of ice are bought every day.

I can contact Jason (at Country Country) to ask for her number.

Re: How do you keep the ice frozen?? and other stupid questions...
I talked to Jason. He said Rooms may have their own massage therapists that work there, sort of like their own territory. Monica just comes to Country Country. He/they just call her at home, by request. He did say that you could go to Country Country and she would set up on the beach for your massage. I'll send you a pm with Jason's phone number in case you're interested.

Re: How do you keep the ice frozen?? and other stupid questions...
We take a huge Bubba mug (1.89 litre, I think). Keeps it for more than a day. Canadian Tire have them. We also purchased an insulated jug at HiLo for like $3 (when we forget the Bubba mug ...) and that works, too. It's also great for ice water on the beach! The Bubba mug is not leakproof though. Get the ice at the hotel bar. When do you guys jet out through YYZ? We fly through on the 24th - maybe we're on the same flight?

Re: How do you keep the ice frozen?? and other stupid questions...
We have no problem keeping the ice frozen here in Minnesota. 28 below this morning. Good luck with your ice! Respect. Irie.

Re: How do you keep the ice frozen?? and other stupid questions...
love2travelchic - Rooms has ice buckets in every room. Not always ice in the ice machine however. 2nutz4travel - We always bring down 2 one liter jugs of booze per person and have never had a problem.

Re: How do you keep the ice frozen?? and other stupid questions...
I've found that the cooler bags that are lined with shiny silver mylar keep things cold at least 3x longer than regular plastic lined. Condensation will leak out some water so leaving it in a plastic bag is great advice. We had a large one once that doubled as a carry on bag and had wheels. That was the best but I've never seen one shaped like that again.

Re: How do you keep the ice frozen?? and other stupid questions...
You're best bet is to buy ice in blocks if u can find it. Alternatively, if you have a little freezer, dedicate its space to water bottles, they'll freeze and then you can add them to your cooler w/ some water , use enuf water bottles to rotate a batch in the freezer. If your cooler is a cheap thin thing, wrap a blanket or rug around it to add insulation.
