Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
She says whatever comes up number 1 on this list we're doing. What says Extra Sharp Cheddar to you when you see somebody doing it in Negril?

Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?

Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
So... is your hair long enough to braid?...
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
You're already on the docket, MC, slathered in Nacho Cheeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. :) Me with a braid? one bead, glued on... :)

Oh yeah! Margaritaville... always chuckle to myself - sometimes even laugh out loud - when I pass there on my beach walks. All I can think is, "Really people?"
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
Wearing a Margaritaville t-shirt at Rick's or visa-versa
-

Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
Agree with Rambo! It's all good........I recall my very first visit with cheesy fond memories. LOL Even after many trips, I actually enjoy seeing that first time glow while walking about. Always brings a smile to mi face. (Yeah, weak effort on patois but at least an effort is made to try to learn) :)

So true.

Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
Going out to the yard and doing our own laundry.
Except we dry them on the line in the sun. They smell really nice.
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
I always get a kick out of the big tour bus full of AI peeps pulling in to Times Square For the Two Hour "Shopping Tour"......
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
Going to Ricks and not knowing enough patois to hear they are calling you Lobster and Steak!
Also paying a fortune for a 6oz dirty banana.
I really hate Ricks
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
Hang at Margaritaville wearing Hawaiian shirts and khaki shorts and no tan. Drink boatloads of Bahama Mamas (not quite sure what those are) and speak really loudly, in fact you can just sort of yell when you aren't slurring and pepper your sentences with Ya mon and fist bump every J'can you spy with "Respect, mon". A few braids with beads pasted on couldn't hurt. And cheesy bright colored plastic sunglasses. Oh you could throw on one of those hats with built in dreadlocks for good measure. That should do it. Or you could just go to Margaritaville.
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
I like going to Rick,s and Margaritaville, but I guess I am cheesey.
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
Wild Thing to Ricks--could be cheesy but fun. Or hang at Ricks and rent one of their poolside cabana things. I still have yet to visit Ricks--and it is inevitable that one day, maybe on trip number 21 or so, I will make it there. And I have never stopped at Margaritaville--though when I stayed at Country Country I was right next door. I think ultimate cheesy would be go to an AI for an evening of congo line dancing and group activities--what have you. Anyhow you got me thinking-- and some cheesy stuff sounds kind of fun.

Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
I know some people who find Seastar drummers and dancers cheesy. To each their owñ. I want to see Guirigay braided and beaded. I got 1000J for your Negril charity choice Guiriguy, if you post the video!!
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
I sometimes shake my head when I see that ultra cheezie tourist in Margeritaville or at Rick's. Having said that, we're bringing newbies this reach and will almost certainly do the Rick's thing again despite my thoughts on the place.
I wear a wide brimmed hat and a fanny pack for my camera etc.. Just gotta have lots a pockets and don't really care what anyone thinks about my stupid looking hat (its functional). No stupid backwards ball cap or "pants on the ground" for this guy (not that there's anything wrong with that). :)
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
I think the absolutely cheesiest/ cliche thing I see tourists do is smoke ganja in public ie.. light up at a bar. That and the mall shopping trip runs second equal ranked with trying to speak half azzed patois.
I personally really enjoy jumping at Ricks, occasionally I get hassled by a new jumper until they find out how cheap I am but usually I am sitting over on their side and technically not at a table at Ricks bar and I am certainly not paying Rick's prices for drinks over there so maybe I am biased.
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
I love going to Margarittaville....fun times!!... I hope Yvonne doesnt laugh at me.
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
I love lighting up at the bar == part of the reason I go to Negril - I'm a somewhat regular at some bars (not Marg or Ricks)
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
Getting off topic. Its all about Guirigays need for cheese. I challenge all boardies to match a 1000J donation to his Negril charity of choice if he gets his hair braided and beaded and publishes a video of the event on Negril.com forum. Maybe he could get it done at Margarittaville or Ricks while lighting up at the bar!
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
As I grown woman, I think this is kind of cheesy: When the waves are high and crashing on the shore, I stand out in the water about waist deep and let the waves toss me around. It's the funnest thing in the world and I could do it for hours!
The hair braiding (for Guirigay) is also good idea. Now that would be a cheese fest!
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
We loved Times Square. Hassel free browsing and an ATM.
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
Walking around in public wearing the hat with fake dreads is BY FAR the cheesiest tourist activity, IMO. It's also kind of insensitive, if you ask me.
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
I'm in on the 1000j to charity for the braiding and beading video. :)
I think locking yourself away in an AI is a bit cheesy, but I don't want that one to win, I don't think Sweetie Pie would be happy locked in an AI. How would the strays get their biscuits?
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
I can think of alot. But it's your vacation do as you please !
-

I'm with you Rambo, I hit a lot of the tourist must do's as well. There's usually a reason a lot of people go to them. I am a fan of cheese in a certain quantity. Really appreciate your last comments given the St Louis Sally situation. We will do all in fun, with best intentions and respect.

Ricks is naturally beautiful, a great dive spot and awesome for people watching. Not much there for me beyond that but it's enough for a visit now and then I think. Still, I understand your sentiment. I get called a lobster wherever I go...

Thanks for putting so much thought into this Rebecca! It's like you were trying to frame a shot or something. Very spot on.

Thanks Don, way to back me into a corner. Like you could pull out some junior high like dare and get me to do something stupid. Like that would ever work.

I'm getting a new panama hat for this trip, should cheese things up nicely. Hope you have a nice trip Craig, gonna see your friend?

I'm guilty of a LOT of Yah Mon's when I'm in Jamaica. Beyond that not much but I probably still would be caught pattering now and then about something. The bar thing? for me only certain ones. I've been to Times Square only once and it was not busy.

Completely different vibe from the craft market with many of the same items. I think I'd REALLY like something in between the two...

No AI for Sweetie Pie, we're headed out shooting again this trip. So you like MaryAnn's idea about hair braiding?

Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
So right now I would tally it at like 6-7 for Margaritaville, 4 for beading/braiding, 3 for lousy patois. Beading/Braiding probably gets bonus points for bribery...
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
I know it's a tease for chesse and i have seen plenty over the years but like I said it's your vacation,I don't like mville havent been to Rick's since the 80's but if that's what you like fine with me.Don't like rent a dreads or working girls or booger sugar but if that's what you go for enjoy and be safe.
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
Don't like your polling system. How about if we pick a Negril charity that pulls the heart. I don't know ...maybe. one that helps sick and abandoned puppies!!! That might slide the vote in the correct direction!! Surely Sweetheart Pie is fond of puppies!
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
take the hedo/wildthing/naked sunset Ricks cruise, you can wear extralong dreads/cap.
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
Yea, I'll just add that if it weren't for those "cheesy" things we did on our first trip, we might not have had the urge to return to Negril and discover the less touristy adventures...
Now as for those things, eating at BK is the one I regret most!

16 replies! LOL. I say you find a nice quiet spot on the West End and hang brain with your dear Sweetie Pie. Nearly free, outside a few beers and maybe some eats...... Looking forward to hearing all about it.....

Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
One persons cheese is anothers Caviar. We have done most of the "cheesey" suggestions and had fun doing them all. The last couple trips Bet has been talking about a couple small braids with beads so I think we'll try that this reach. However with our count down I don't think I have time to grow enough hair. I'll have to find some other cheesey tourist activity.
-
Re: Sweetie Pie wants to know, what's the cheesiest Negril tourist activity?
Margaritaville has lifeguards, lockers, security, and no pressure to buy anything while on the property. If you can stand the Jimmy Buffet music; it's a good place to swim.
Any other beach places offer all that? Bueller?
