After visiting Negril, who else has nixed future plans for other destinations?

Here's what happened. Just the facts.

I had been to Cancun and Cabo and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico. I had been to a couple of the islands in Hawaii. I had been to the Bahamas. I had even been to Bora Bora in Tahiti.

Then I took a trip to Negril.

That trip to Jamaica got this beach-lover to vacation more than ever .... but only to Negril. I never go back to the other places.

Can anyone relate?

Good thought,We have NEVER been "other places".My wife has thought about for our kids to see other islands.But I think our heart for Jamaica will not let us:))~But Bora Bora would maybe be nice? naw JAMAICA for us!!

Same here gerryg123...1st trip to negril in '88 thru '99..then tried Turks & Cacios...Mexico..all over Hawaii & after all that I just had to come back To Negril in '05 & every year since..to be continued 01/30/13for my 5 week stay. Been asked by many why I keep going back. I just can't find that vibe & peacefullness I'm looking for anywhere else or the wonderful smells..the hard working Jamaican people that I have so much respect for busting their butts everyday to make a buck & never ever do I here a complaint. I like the fact that it just hasn't changed all that much since my first visit..just keep it simple. You either get it or you don't...but I know it's not for everyone & respect that. This year I have a freind coming to for himself for a week to see what it's all about....we'll see if Negril hooks another one!!

Our oldest son will be graduating from high school in the Spring. As a gift to him, we booked a trip with about 5 other families of students that are his friends to Maya Riviera in March. Everyone is so excited for the trip and constantly sending out countdown reminders......but the wife and I have very low expecations that it will come even close to comparing with Negril. We spend more time talking about our trip back to Negril next December than our upcoming Mexico trip. I try to excited by looking at pictures on Trip Advisor, bit it just ain't happening. Who knows, with our expectations this low, it shouldn't be hard for them to be surpassed....Also a little nervous that our 18 year old son will be legal drinking age...should be interesting.

This may very well be the last time we do a tropical vacation anywhere other than Jamaica.

Been alot of places but always compare them to Negril.Every beach destination I always long for sweet Jamaica.Thats why we always come back I haven't found a place like it.

i soooo concur!!! I have been to Puerto Rico, Bahamas and St. Maarten...but Jamaica has my heart and soul!!! I am doing 2 trips to the DR next year and trying to figure out how I am going to squeeze in a trip to Jamaica!!!!

I do the juggling act ~ Negril & Akumal :cool: and, it's working out very nice....

I can't be objective as Jamaica has been part of our lives and family for so long. Even when we were away.

I can only say that after being away for so long it was like I never left.

It occurs that I have had roots in Jamaica longer that anywhere I've ever lived.

Everywhere else is a vacation but Jamaica is coming home

The only beach vacation I've wanted to go back to other than Jamaica was Railey Beach in Thailand. Stunning vistas, clear water and very cool vibe, especially at night when the day trippers leave. If only it wasn't a 20hr+ trip away. Amazing food.

So.... he already has 3-4 years drinking experience.... no problem!

Been to Cuba, the DR, Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, the Mayan Riviera and of course Jamaica. We still go to Akumal to snorkel with the turtles and to see friends we've made, but my heart belongs to Jamaica. There really is something special about the place :) I can only relax in Jamaica, nowhere else does that for me...

After 12 trips or so to Negril it is hard not to go back each year.We have been on cruises to some really awesome places and stayed in Punta Cana and Cancun but it's just not the same.We talked about another Dominican trip with the kids and their wives and some friends but when everyone goes to bed at 10:oopm we get a little bored and there is nothing to do like there is in Negril.We love the nightlife,the awesome local people and just the super vibes that Negril can supply us, we will be back with the whole gang next year,just have to pick the right resort to keep everyone as happy as they can be!!!

We love Mexico- Playa Del Carmen, Isla Mujeres, Akumal, Tulum. Even got married in Playa in 2005. It used to be our definite spot every year. Went to Negril with friends pre-child in 2006. It captured a piece of our hearts just like Mexico. Now Mexico has become our every so often vacation and Negril is our every January trip. This will be our daughters 4th time there in January. Love Negril and Idle Awhile.

Jamaica owns my heart, however, I have been itching to do a trip to Akumal. The snorkling and vibe there looks very nice.

Have been going to Negril since 82. Went to Antigua once and it was nice but not Negril. Was looking at Playa del Carmen after reading a Negril trip report on a Playa website. Hey heater those must be your posts on the Rissasks trip report. Welcome to Negril. Can't wait until Feb. for my next trip.

I have been hitting the rock since " 97".... And I have stayed all over the island....
My next visit is march 2013 for my 50th....last time on the island Feb / 2010
And I will tell you this,,,,,not what i wanted to do for my 50th.... Wanted to spend 10 days
cruising the BVI,,,bar hopping,,, on a 50 foot sail.... Why you may ask,,,,,,something different,,,someplace new!!!!!!!!!
It was very important to me , to spend my time with my kids.... for my 50th....College schedules,,,Spring break,,, work,,, and distance
made it some what difficult...... too get everybody on the same page.........
Been to Punta, Cancun,, Riveria Maya, several times and numerous destinations in the states....
Seasoned travellor...... My kids included......
So, the resolve was this,,,,,, I am hitting the rock for my 50th for 10 days,,,,,Westend style
Blue Cave, Westender Inn and Xtabi,,,,and I am good with it....
Cruising the BVI in the summer with my daughter......... Her gift to me
Storming the beaches in Normandy France with my son.... His gift to me
Oh,,,, Dads still paying
Dad does not mind

Akumal Beach Resort is nice. You can snorkel with turtles there all day long.

We've all been there, there is no place as amazing as Negril. Have a great time on the rock G123

Highly recommend Akamal the place is awesome that being said we're getting ready to spend our 4th trip to negril since last visiting Akamal....hmmmm...:)

The world is full of beautiful places to see. I'm good right now where I am at and that is visiting Ja and appreciating all that she has to offer. Will I go elsewhere? Of course, but right now my desires are here and for the foreseeable future I will continue to appreciate all that she has to offer. Red Stripe anyone? Marley shots? Subs? Jerk Chicken? Pub Crawl? Massage? Doing nothing? Walking the beach? Great Music? Amazing chefs and food? Humble? Thanks? Yep, it is all here and some.....

The further out the better.

Africa is my ultimate destination. Jamaica scratches the itch.

Cancun and Grand Cayman... Never even think about going back,lol....

Jamaica reminds me of visiting down south(Southern U.S) in the 60's and early 70's... Feels like home!

Gonna do London, take the bullet train to Paris and fly to Rome in 2016...

I only agreed to that if I still got to go to Jamaica at least once that year!

Lived in Grand Cayman, been to Cuba, DR, Bahamas, Barbados, Tortola and Anagada ( BVI) etc, but my favorite place is Negril. I love that you really don't need to leave the beach. Everything we need we can get on the beach. LOve that

Been to Bermuda, Aruba 2x, Cancun 2x, St Lucia and since 2006 Jamaica 2x a year. No need to even try another island. It has everything we need in a beach vacation. We do love traveling the US and use to get a 3rd trip each year to SC, FL, AZ etc etc but not in the last few years. Hubby made me promise I won't ask him to go to Mexico ever again!

Striper, have you ever been to Isla Mujeres while in Akumal? Definitely worth the trip. I would suggest finding a cheap hotel for an overnight trip, instead of just a day trip.

Love Turtle Bay Bakery for breakfast. They've had some great groupons for ABR.

LOL...Boardie kind....but technically we are all in the ocean so I am sure there are some shelled ones around there somewhere! LOL

I plan on going to visit some family back home in West Africa...it will be my first time going there. I want to go to Trinidad and Barbados as well,but Jamaica:) will always have my Heart!

We honeymooned on Paradise Island, renewed our vows on St Lucia, three trips to the North side of Ja, then we went to Negril. This will be our 3rd year in a row. I wanted to go to Negril our 1st trip to Ja but others in the group didn't want to ride that long in a bus.

I have visited Jamaica 11 times now, and in between a few other places- Aruba, St.Lucia, Punta Cana & Puerto Plata. Every island has its own beauty, but all that I can think of each time, is Jamaica (especially Negril), is my fav. and I can't wait to get back. I'm definately a Negril fan, food, sights, smells, vibe etc. Nothing can beat it.

I go home to Jamaica, all the other places are just a vacation....

Puerto Vallarta is a special place for sentimental reasons, and I try to go back every few years, but Negril is where my heart is and where I want to get back to as often as possible.

i first went to mobay jamaica in '77 i was 21 years old, we ventured out to negril, back then it was still a small fishing village, but we fell in love with it and went back to negril about 8 months later. over the many years i have visited much of the carribbean, & mexico but kept returning to negril at least once a year some years twice. i will be back again in february for my 42nd time....jamaica is a magical place like no other, the vibes, the music, the food & especially the people...i'm from philly & its 2 1/2 hr flight, i'm 57 now & i still love negril even thru all the changes that i have witnessed in 35 years....soon come

Actually, no. We just got back from a 12 day trip to Negril & Treasure Beach, but a beach vacation is not the only place we go. Next on the agenda, Ecuador and the Galapagos. Last year Peru and Mexico (and not Cancun either)
