Anyone have any info on this?
sounds like a "dicey" situation.
Gave me a chill
Do I NEED TO CANCEL MY TRIP? Suppose to check in on the 16th. Is crime bad in Negril?
What could have caused this to happen?
The husband and I are going in April. Have no intentions of canceling our trip! IMO crime in Jamaica is probably no different then a lot of places in this world we live in. Use common sense the same as you would at home! Hope you go and have a great vacation!
a friend who lives in negril called me earlier and told me about this.
he said two ppl got into a fight? but the details are not clear...sorry I dont have any other info but I will ask. Things like this happen everyday, I hope it won't have negative effects on tourism.
Elvis....I would not hesitate to go to Negril. I have been there with my husband and 2 teenagers. If you stopped going places because of hearing such bizaar things, you'd never go anywhere....WTH I'm from Connecticut....our kids can't even go to school without the possibility of danger. If I were you, you just need to use your common sense just as you would do anywhere. You are definately safe by day walking on the beach, but at night, don't go anywhere walking in the dark. Stay in the mostly touristy populated areas and don't go with anyone you don't know....get to know your driver and he will fill you in. Party, but don't get drunk out of your mind....don't go flaunting all kinds of money...only take with you what you will need in your pocket, leave the rest in your safe...I too had the same concerns you had, especially since i was traveling with my boys....you will be fine, and you will have a great time....no worry mon!
Ann Theresa, we're from CT too...
Also I agree with your advise...it's solid.
Lorax- you're in Negril. Everything criss?
We happened to drive by the scene earlier today - the police had cordoned off the area and were redirecting traffic. It was explained that this was a domestic dispute and that a father-in-law and son-in-law were involved in a long term dispute that ended in this tragedy. This was not a "tourist" incident, a person involved may have been visiting the island, but there are definite marital and family issues involved. This did not occur at any resort property.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those effected by the events - tragedies like this are life changing for those involved.
thanks for clearing it up Rob.Prayers for those involved.
Thanks Rob
yea we still plan on going- got to fill up my bucket list and its going to take them young women in Negril to do it.
Where was the scene located?
Thanks for the info Rob. Praying for the people involved.
Thank you Rob.
I can always count on you to have the facts, and just the facts, without sugar coating, or exaggerating the truth.
Thanks Rob :-)
Coco...everything is beautiful...no problems. ;-)
USA is one of the most violent countries in the world when it comes to homicides.NYC is bragging that they ONLY had 450 killings this year,,,,SO????
I was just speaking with a friend in Negril and the chopping was not involving a tourist but a visitor to the area. There was a dispute or phone charges and the visitor stabbed someone, then a mob attacked the visitor. Still a terrible crime but nothing to do with a tourist. Jah Bless
Google Murder stats for Mexico or Venezuela for comparison. Evil can happen anywhere , so you take extra care to keep yourself out of sketchy situations . Thats how we teach our children so we need to use our own common sense when travelling anywhere.
