I'm soon due to fly back to JA, in 68 days to be more precise :cool:
Got a question - I'll be staying in Negril&I'm wondering if there are any boardies who have been or heard of beaches or part of the beach that's pretty much deserted, where you can just bring ur own food,chill out, go for a swim and with no one around?
Or is there a hotel where you can pay to get access to their beach strip or cliffs and where you can have some privacy?
I know of no part of the beach that you can have privacy.
There is a public beach just to the North of Cosmo's.
And north of that before you get to Beach's Sandy Bay (the old Poincianna) is
the property of the (now defunct) Mahogany Inn which is deserted but not private.
Long Bay Beach 2 is pretty secluded, but not entirely private.
It's a public beach and i presume during the weekends, and summer it will be busy, but while i was there ( i just back this past wednesday), i had the beach to myself.
Just North past Cosmos, is Long Bay Beach 1.. then you go up further along a path near the roadway and then come back out onto the beach (LBB2)... It's a nice hike, and perfect destination to cool off at.

Probably need a bit more help with directions (never been a strength of mine). So, let's say if I start from Shamrock, would I need to take a taxi and if so where do I ask them to stop and where do I go from there?
If I don't really need to take a taxi Id prefer to walk and what way would I go if Im stood right outside Shamrock with my back against the shop?
I've partied at Long Bay Beach, but each trip theres so many places to go and see and it tends to get a bit blurry sometimes. Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated :)
and just to clarify, is the Mahogany Inn Beach the same as long bay beach 2?
It is about 3 miles of walking to Cosmos. Easiest way from Shamrock would be a route taxi going north and get dropped off at Cosmos. Walk through JUTA's parking area, Cosmos, then turn NORTH (right). Start walking until you like what you see.
Another option is to have the driver go a bit further and drop you off before hitting Beaches Sandy Bay at the actual entrance of the park.
If you like walking on the beach (like I do), then you'll enjoy that walk. You can also hire a driver for the day to take you to really isolated beaches along the south shore.

If it's only 3 miles away, I guess I could walk from let's say Grand Pinapple or Alfreds and just follow the beach until I get to the beach referred to above or are there any big hotels 'in the way'. That has got private beaches which you can't pass through as a 'non-guest'?
I really miss Little Bloody Bay. That was exactly the pristine, deserted "Robinson Crusoe" beach closest to Negril. Gone now to development...

Find Half Moon Bay. Restaurant and very very quiet. Unless the Wild Thing comes in. But its not every day and only for a shot time. Then back to peace and quiet
There are A/I compounds that you pass. Thing is, you can walk on the beach from sun up to sun down near the water line no matter who controls the road access. It is fun to walk through the resorts. When you approach the guard may (or may not) ask you what your room is, just tell them you are "moving through" and they will let you pass.Quote:

The beach in the picture is further north, where RIU is and where a new development is going in. Used to be a great place to get away from the Negril scene. There are still plenty of others, just got to ride a little further.Quote:

Is it really 3 miles out to Cosmo's?? I may have been in better physical shape then I thought then because I walk out there by roadway several times during my trips from down by the roundabout. So really from NBCC a round trip walk over to Cosmo's is 6 miles???? OK that begs another mileage question then: I also almost atleast once daily walk from NBCC to Xtabi and have once walked to Ricks. None of this seems far, how far app. is that? I would have guessed Cosmo's at 1-1.5 miles. Man I am terrible at judging distance. I figured Ricks was 2.5. Xtabi at under 2.
back in the day all of Bloody Bay was secluded..........actually that wasn't so long ago.......
but Little Bay is pretty secluded as is Half Moon Beach.......you'll need a driver to get to both........but well worth it

The Long Bay beach park north of Cosmo's is usually desolate on weekdays....I've walked that stretch many times without seeing anyone else around, you can walk as far as Sandals. But the beach there would be nice and private and I always wanted to picnic there myself plus the park is close enough and has restrooms if needed.

True, however it should be mentioned that the lady working in the changerooms/washrooms at Long Bay Beach 2, is out to make a little money. She tried to make me pay to pee.Quote:

There's this really cool arched, dry tree that is perfect for hanging your backpack, and whatever on, while you play in the water.

Rastagirl-I really miss that spot. Our friend Rasta Mike (runs glass bottom boat in front of Yellow Birl/Merrill's used to take us out there to snorkle. Best spot we thought, and you could take a break on the beach and have lunch and drinks. Mike told us they were going to develope the area, so no more stopping there. That just stinks!!
