Hi all-
We have emailed Negril Hills several times to the address they give on their website asking one simple question and they either just don't read the email or they just don't care to respond... but we still need to know...
Anyone know how much it costs to rent clubs for 18 holes of golf and if the clubs are in decent shape or not?

I play there every year, club rental was $35.00. the clubs looked ok but I always take mine. The course is short, Very hard and fun to play.
I have played it maybe 25 or 30 times and love it.

there is a reason Hills in the name of the Golf Club der.........lol
and mi don't think I've ever seen anyone play in the the afternoon der...........lol
course is a lot of fun mon.......and should get a lot more press

If you are an above average golfer, bring your own clubs. The rentals are cheap clubs (as you might expect) and No stiff shafts are available. The course is nice, but not as challenging as Tryall or Round Hill. be sure and bring balls or you will pay twice the price as in the USA.
Bring good clean balls with you. This is a hot golf spot. I think it only has 9 holes...
caddy's are well informed and good golfers as well. Don't believe they use carts, but may want to confirm. I walked the course.
Tryall Club has a golf course but its semi private and is expensive! It's a quality course though...

I have to say that I was not terribly impressed with the visual condition of Tryall when we've driven past it. For a course of that level, it appeared to be in somewhat ragged shape.
Here are a couple of photos for you. My caddy played a round with me from the Blues (much better than I could - LOL). The clubs I rented weren't the best but did the trick. Check to be sure you have a full set before you go out though. I rented a cart too because it gets hot out there and they don't call it Negril HILLS for nothing.

Its a fun course, but if you bring clubs beware if you walk to the street for a cab almost had a 50 car pile up and a fist fight for the right to pick us up!!!
My wife and I made the mistake of walking once, not too bad at first, but towards the end it was too hot. A stop at Mrs. Brown's for some tea made up for it.
Well I don't want to go against the grain here but: I have been playing Negril Hills since its inception and I always used to get out early to beat the heat, but then my good friend Victor Gibbs from negril started into the game and on our very first round ever he told me he would pick me up at noon-hugh-Victor thats too late we will melt. He said "no Boogzy that is the coolest time to go. The breeze always blow in the afternoon keeping you cool plus in the morning between 8 and 10 in the valleys(almost every hole) the sun is burning the dew off the grass and you are standing in 100% humidity". So off we went at the crack of noon and sure enough it was beautiful-didn't even break one sweat. Ever since then its tee off at noon with nobody in front ever. Try it golfers and you will see what I mean-respect-Boogzy

A friend and I just played Negril Hills four mornings in a row (Sat - Tue) while our wives relaxed on that amazing Bloody Bay beach. I had played the course several times before, but it had been a few years. This is not a refined course, but the price is reasonable and it's fun. The course has improved somewhat from how I remember it. The sand traps are still an adventure, but the fairways and green have improved from our last time at this course. We enjoyed our golf a great deal. To address some of the questions here:
We played every morning at like 8:30 and while it was hot (it's July!) it was not uncomfortable.
We took a cart every day (we walked 18 a few years ago and it's not really a walking course for me)
Our caddy was Shern Stewart. We requested him every day and really enjoyed our time with him. He is good at his job, reliable, and personable. A very nice young man with a wife and 4 year old daughter at home. We highly recommend him! If you do use him please tell him Roy and Robert said "Hi and Thanks again for a great week of golf!"
Our greens fees were part of our package at Couples Negril so I am not exactly sure what the greens fee would have been this week, but we spent $31.50 each to play 18 holes each day. This covered the split cart fee and the caddie fee. *** Remember that the caddies make most of their limited $ from tips and what you pay in the clubhouse does not include the tip! Be as generous as you are comfortble with. Most caddies get one round a day, if that. Also remember that when you buy a drink from the beverage cart to get something for your caddy too!
Rental Clubs:
We took our clubs since we are going to play several times. Rentals looked okay and rental prices ranged from $18 to $40 for 18 holes depending on which clubs you used. The $18 ones looked usable but a little rough, the higher priced ones were very nice. The one warning I would give about the rentals is that if you want a stiff or extra stiff shaft there are not a lot of those.
We like the course and the people there and look forward to playing it a few times when next we are in Negril.
