day trip Half Moon beach vs Rhodes Hall
Looking for info on going to either of these beaches via route cab, not doing an organized tour. I know both have a restaurant and snorkeling. Please give feedback on these places-quality of snorkeling, ambiance, and food. I know Rhodes Hall has a $15 day pass that includes pick up and drop off from Negril.

Re: day trip Half Moon beach vs Rhodes Hall
We just went to Rhodes Hall last week and it was amazing. If you take a route taxi, the cost is $5 pp for a day pass. You can rent towels for an additional $5. The charge for transportation and a day pass is $20 pp from the beach road., pick up around 9:30 and return at 3:30. They have snorkel gear for rent as well for $5. You won't be disapointed.

Re: day trip Half Moon beach vs Rhodes Hall
I have been to half moon a couple times it is really nice and food was good. I also did horse ride at Rhodes hall that was way awesome I think Rhodes might have a better selection of things to do.

Re: day trip Half Moon beach vs Rhodes Hall
Rhodes does have more to do, but Half Moon Beach has a bit more of an away-from-it-all feel, and that's an important element .... Rhodes has much better snorkeling, based on the fact I snorkeled Half Moon for like a half hour and saw NOTHING .... Rhodes has always been five dollars when I arrive at the gate, but they're advertising now that's it more money -- that's kind of a Jamaica thing, you just have to go with the flow ... Half Moon is free, and the food is amazingly good, even for Negril; never ate at Rhodes but have heard good things, mostly from Vince who is incredibly loyal to that place .... Some of the rooms at Rhodes look amazing.
Updated: Rhodes also has a pool, and that's a huge plus (saltwater pumped from ocean, it's cool); nice to have a Scooter and do both places!

Re: day trip Half Moon beach vs Rhodes Hall
I am really excited to give Rhodes Hall a try in April. There is a group of us coming to Negril for wedding so we might gather some of the troops for a day trip... :) Any one have pictures they can post?

Re: day trip Half Moon beach vs Rhodes Hall
Hi. Fellow NBr....never been to Rhodes but went to half moon each time I've been to Negril. It's got a desert island vibe, mellow, with a small bay/beach. The food is good! Just don't go on the same time as the wildthing cruise arrives, unless youre into that kind of thing. Three weeks from today! ( first Treasure Beach then Negril ) - two weeks of warm......

Re: day trip Half Moon beach vs Rhodes Hall
Iam hitting up treasure beach for a couple nights in between my 5 nights in negril and 5 in Belmont

Re: day trip Half Moon beach vs Rhodes Hall
Hey!! Awesome I've been to Treasure beach for a week a few years back. Beaches are a bit different on the south coast of course. I can't wait to get in the heat again even if it's just for a week.

Re: day trip Half Moon beach vs Rhodes Hall
That place looks tight. Not sure why I have not been but it is inching towards the top of the bucket list. Both places is what I would do. Half day at each or if not mix it with a half day at Percy's Riverside Retreat. We did Percy's and Half Moon in one day and thoroughly enjoyed both settings. Percy's is run by a great family and Mrs Percy cooks up some amazing food. Cap it off with a half day with sunset included chatting up Andrew the owner of Half Moon. Andrew is a cool guy and offers up great conversation. If you are a dog hugger you will love his pups.

..., and it still is only $5 USD at the gate as the price has not changed in over 8 yrs. Day Packages are now available for $20 and $30 USD per person, (depending on the location of your hotel), and includes roundtrip transportation, day pass and a choice of one Red Stripe, Rum Punch, Soft Drink or bottled water. You can call 1-876-957-6422 for more details.
Also, The Wild Thing is no longer in business. Another party purchased the Wild Thing Catarmaran.

Re: day trip Half Moon beach vs Rhodes Hall
Great pics! I really want to check this place out. I have a few questions.....
I was wondering how far out approximately the reef is (how long did it take to swim out going at a casual pace say)?
It looks like there's weeds near the shore - what is the bottom like near shore?
Does it take long to get out deep enough to throw on the fins and swim?
Were there alot of fish in that little bay or only at the reef?
Sorry for so many questions :D

Does it take long to get out deep enough to throw on the fins and swim?~the reef we swam out to it once.Errol the guy who runs the glass bottom boat can take you out there. Its a good swim if you do it.yes there is grass around, but overall GREAT snorkeling rite off the beach. It does not take long to go out deep to put fins on.We just sat on the beach and put our fins on and walk backwards into the water and layed down and swam out:)~Theres TONS TONS of fish in the bay~We saw lots lots of fish.I saw about 5-7 lion fish.~Ask way about Rhodes,If i got the answer for ya or dont have the answer.I'll call Marcel,Kaci or Shane and get you the correct answer.~You WILL fall in LOVE with this place!!
