Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
Was a smooth day of travel, three hour drive, three hour wait at YYZ, they saved my seat (1C) for me, last on, first off! We arrived 10 minutes early at 7:15 pm was out of the airport at 7:35, after pickin up my suitcase, for real!?
Called my driver and he was only 5 minutes away, couldnt believe I was out already!
I had committed to going to the Bob Bash previously so had a ticket waiting, what was i thinking, anyway, rode with Tyrone and we had some laughs on the trip to Negril. Arrived at Xtabi at like 9:30, drop my suitcase quick shower and out the door running!

Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
So i try and call the bad influence that was forcing me to go out to a late show the first night? No answer, he said a nap was in order so am sure he is still sleeping, so anyway I start walking down the west end towards MX3, I figure I can find some where to get a cold Redstripe while I wait, and believe it or not it worked!
Had a few walkers, stopped by No Limit a couple Redstripes, and a half jerk chicken from Tiger there.
\It was busy a soccer (football) match going on. Next stop, SpydaJam, a few more cold ones now its like 11 something after a couple more calls I get through to the guy with the tickets. Of course overslept and agree to hook up out side the gate.
So as you know how it goes the ticket mon was a no show, but luckily Winston who used to work at Seasplash haad a connection to 2 presold tickets!
In we go good timing as not too long after we get Jr. Marvin takes the stage, He put on a good show with lots of Marley hits!
There was a good crowd and seemed to be well set up it was easy to get drinks and the bathrooms never lined up too long.
Next Marcia Grifffiths came on , io have seen her before she put on a really good show!
It was getting late on my third wind and many Redstripes later, but hung in for Bunny Wailor, another real good performance, was worth the price of admission!
Oh that reminds me I still owe for the ticket, lol
So like 4:00 am grab a bowl of sip from Marceus and walk back up the westend with a burnt tongue, I should know better, man that soup is hot off the tire rim!

Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
So yesterday was full on trail of bottle caps all the way to the Jungle til 3:30 am!
WAlked up to Banmark to exchange money, and back to Xtabi a quick sto in, and then walk down to the beach, First stop Bourbon Beach, was like a nov. trip reunion, all the same dudes I hung around with then are all here?!
So I made several stops along the beach including :
Bourbon Beach
Yllowbird (first dirty bananas!)
Arthurs, little history lesson there, too cool
Maureen,s ( was stuck there for some time like usual)
Tony,s hut (Georgia was there with her new baby! cool surprise)
Sunbeach (usual cast of characters there!)
Wild Parrot ( my favourite spot on the beach!)
Anyway had a couple there now its like after 5, so jump in a taxi up to Canoe, webcast a couple rum punches, the Lion fish for the first time, really good stuff.
Feet aching, Oh had a bit of a head cold when I left, man that makes the ears hurt on the landing, startin to be able to hear better by then!
So I am suppose to hook up with the Bourbon Beach dudes at the Jungle!
Got a couple hour nap, woke up just after 11 and off I go, was a fun ttime there, there was five of us, we are all over 6 foot tall and a few asked if we were hockey players or something?Canadian racial profiling maybe?
Cant believe it was like 3:30 before I got out there, bowl of sip from Markus again and time to hit the hay!

Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
Yeah, it was fun hanging out at the Jungle with Billy and the guys!
Yesterday was another long one! Started out with a walk down to Banmark for the days funds, then on to Seastar for lunch, jerk chicken club and salad!
Then a walk back to home base to grab phone charger, today was to be a beach day, already off to a late start as i made some stops along the west end.

Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
First stop Bourbon Beach where I Maureen who is running things while Kevin is away, nice lady!
First Redstripe of the day! I believe around 2 or something!
Anyway head down the beach Stop by Carribean delight and had a Redstripe with some people I met on the plane coming in, seems to happen alot!
From there on to Yellowbird, 2 for 1 lime daquiri, for a change, was nice change.
Onward down Maureen,s bar cant pass by there without stopping in for a while.
End up with a stop at Whitesands have a beer with Patrick say hi to Marge, so there is a reggae band from Canada staying there recording a music video, cool!
Gotta try and remember what there called and search out there stuff.
Of course next stop, Sunbeach, there seems to be a pattern developing?
-
Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
Finally get down to the Wild Parrot, Grab a Redstripe, End up catching a ride down to Travellors with Bill and Pam for the donkey race volunteer meeting.
All set for that, so I end up joining them for dinner and drinks up at LTU, make sure you try the black bean burrito there, it good if you like that sorta thing!
Was really busy there and half the bar and restaurant owners from Negril were there it seemed, met some real interesting characters there last night and caught some new scoop around town.
Ended up there for quite a while , then hitched a ride over to DEbar, said hi to the guys, and had to have a quarter chicken!
Now its getting late so walk back down to Xtabi, quick shower and back out pondiroad.

Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
Was plannin on hitting up Alfred,s but Peewee,s birthday party got in the way!
Was real jammed up there and overflowing over to No Limit, never ended up leavin, til the end, ok so when I was a kid, when some one would talk that you couldnt understand we use to say "what language is that ,pig latin or what?"
So by this time at Peewee,s most everyone thwas speaking "Redstripe latin", or "rum Latin|
I had conversation with a few there, I barely understood a word they said!
It seemed every one had a real good time there! Live music lots of rum and drinks!
Was about 3 somthin again so good old Markus was there with his big pot of soup and foil fish to go!
3 nights in a row for the soupmon, ans am getting better at it now, didnt burn my tongue at all!
Only being here a week the time is flying by,
Today is saturday I think, not sure the plan hope to check back in the mornin tommmorrow!

Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
Hey what happened since yesterday, whered all this batty boy stuff come from?
-
Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
So am moving earlier this morning as I went to bed early, like 12:00 or maybe a little later.
So yesterday was another beach day, I decided to take my time and walk down.
Stopped by Canoe, sat with Diane and decided to get some lunch, tuna melt? Did not know what that was but what the heck, was pretty good!
Ting to drink it was not Redstripe time yet!
So as I am coming up to the Corner bar I see the Bourbon Beach crew sitting at a table out front!
Now its Redstripe time!
-
Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
So after a couple its time to keep moving down to the beach, we agree to hook up later down at the Palms on the beach, why I dont know?
Anyway a quick stop at the cabio, and down to Bourbon beach, just one quick beer and down the beach I head, I have not made it past Wild Parrot yet, could today be the day?
Lets see where were vthe stops today, of course got stuck at Maureens, they were double stacked at the bar there, and was a fun crowd,
So Jamaica Rob from the board rolls up and was on a roll,
He made me wait so he get his camera, lmao
So after a couple photos, I keep rolling down the beach and agree we will see each other later at Seastar.
-
Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
I am set that I am going to get farther down the beach so limit my stops , except a quick stop at Sunbeach, I end up all the way to Thrills Corner for a patty and Redstripe, ends the meet at the Palms never worked out but a couple of us hit a few of the same bars.
I stopped at Seasplash for a Redstripe and then started heading back.
Oh, I forgot this part! I stopped by to say hey to boardie Farmer, so he itroduces me to this guy ends up he is the bassist from the Canadian power trio "Triumph" any one growing up in Canada in the eighties knows them for sure, how cool! Ends up he has been coming here for years, has a house somewhere, had some great stories!
Now there is no use avoiding the Wild Parrott any longer so, end up back there!
For me its that place that if I stop, I probably am not goin any where else!
So I end up there til close and am the last one there, watched a great sunset, the first one I have seen so far, not sure how i keep missing them?
-
Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
Ok so I end up walking the beach back in the dark, not sure I ever did this before, it was cool, a different look with some of the joints all lit up for dinner!
Anyway end up back at Bourbon Beach, the guys are there and I have Redstripe before heading out to the road to get a taxi back.
Am getting hungry and cutting it close on even getting to Seastar at all.
So I order some food and then head up for a shower!
Salad and conch fritters, pretty good stuff!
Met some nice people staying here they are all heading to the donkey races today!
Believe it or not i did end up getting up to Seastar, wow knew a lota people there!
Was busy talkin away, but was runnin outa gas, so headed outjust before midnight!
Cup of soup from the guy out front and the long walk back, its not really that far but was really tired!
Anyway the first early night!
Donkey Race day today, so will have a new view of things today! From the othere side of the bar!
-
Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
YAY, Donkey Race day. Cant wait to see some pics.
Triumph, that brought back a few memories. Did you run into K3 yet?
45cms of snow yesterday so loving your walks along the beach. Can almost feel that hot sand and cold red stripes.
-
Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
Donkey Race day!
Had some breakfast here before leaving and for some stupid reason I was determined to walk there?
So off I go thinking I can make it in less than a half hour?
Left at 11:30 and walking at aq very fast pace, didnt get there til 12:05, Late for my frist day of volunteer work!
No one noticed though, so all was good,
-
Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
So my shift was to be 12 til 2, I can tell you I ended up working hard until 4, bartending slugging big bags of ice and crates and crates of beer!
Needless to say I didnt get many pictures as I never really stopped for 4 hours!
I did enjoy the experiance although it was hard work, there was a huge crowd I would say the biggest I have seen there!
-
Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
So I grab a Redstripe and a slice of pizza as i had not ate since the morning, was tired hungry, sore feet, any way decided to walk down to Wild Parrot to one of them comfy bar stools there.
Recovered with a couple of them best margaritas in Negril, and some conversation at the bar with Richard and my real estate friend.
Always get some scoop about what is for sale, what is sold and that kinda stuff!
The margaritas gave my tired body a new life! lol
So after sunset and hangin by the bonfire for a bit, I walked up to Thrills Corner, grabbed a patty and Redstripe, hung out there a little bit, then thought I better start getting back in the right direction.
-
Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
So I would say its like maybe seven thirty maybe eight, So up in the dark I can see a place real busy and hear some live music playing, as I get close I see its Sunbeach, dont think I ever been there in the dark before, didnt even know they were open that late.
Met some nice people there at the bar and stood around talking over a Redstripe or two, so back up the beach I go,
Now I gat as far as Whitesands and they have a big crowd as well!
Get me a spot at the bar, and ends up the guy next to me occasionally posts here, asked him twice his board name, and yeah, I still cant remember it?
Back up the beach I go, next stop ends up to be Maureeen,s yes she was still open and there were still a few customerss hangin around.
So now I decide I am gonna keep on walkin, pass through Boubon Beach, back to the road,
Alright so i was feeling pretty good except my feet by now, and I made up a really stupid song as I was walking up to the bridge and into town, yeah singin it out loud too! I made some videos too, but not sure I will watch them, it cant be good!
Ok so I get as far as Sunset After Dark, stop in and hang out with my good friend Patrick, he talked me into getting some lobster, like it took much!
I will not exagerate, they were huge and really good!
By now its gotta be ten or later, so patrick sends me off down the road with a farewell Redstripe.
Sunday night!? So thats why most of the joints are closed up, it was after ten I guess!
Next stop, Sandra,s bar there ends up to be a couple of the Donkey volunteers there, think they were in worse shape than me, for real.
So some guy at the bar, I guess a regular, is having his birthday party there the next, day and he starts kinda getting loud towards me and tells me to make sure i dont show up? lmao
In the background Sandra is telling me to make sure I do come, and every one else there is getting a good laugh from the verbal abuse I am getting, lol
Ok so one more stop up at Nolimit, and the rest of the crew from the prvious bar are just closing up the joint, so I get some company walking for a bit, and then my tired feet get me the rest of the way back!
-

Great trip report!!!

Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
had a triumph cassette tape or two back in the day....rock on....damn pgw, you get around, I thought I did some walking, but from xtabi down to the beach in 30 minutes, from xtabi to roundabout in 30 minutes is doing something, especially hard to avoid some type of distraction along the way...
great reporting from site,
happy trails

Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
Yesterday was a kinda weird day?
Started with no real plans other than heading west, cambio, stop by a guy who comes here as much as I do who bought a joint and then to Seastar for lunch!
Always gotta have that chicken club with salad a couple times, one of my favourites!
So after a tour of that dudes new joint, and lunch, I run into Kimbobwee as he and his better half just got in the day before, they are going to get cleaned up and hit the Red Dragon for some pork.
I was undecide where I was off to and headed out down the westend road!
The sky was looking kinda dark towards the beach, soon after questioning my choice in making it a beach day, I catch a glimpse of the back of there heads fly by in a route taxi!
Pretty much jumped in the next one coming by and hooked up with them in town, then came the rain!, a couple good downpours and it let up enough to walk in, worked out good as they needed t hit the cambio, phone card and that kinda stuff.
We walked up into redground dodging puddles and mud along the way.
