I would say Belmont or one of the fishing villages in that direction.. Not a bad idea I might give that a try while iam there one day
541lion, when are you going? If you end up doing this, let me know how it goes! Have fun!!
Not till June.. Ill be spending a couple days in treasure beach before spending 4 in Belmont. Super stoked
Rastabell, myself and 3 of my buddies went out with a couple of local guys and fished last October. Not a big boat, about a maybe 18 foot wooden boat. We had a great time, caught fish while trolling with 2, 8 foot what looked like tree branches. This is how they have fished since the beginning of time. No reels used, no fiberglass rods. I highly recommend it. Call this guy, he will hook you up. His name is Zafai his number is 876-440-1745. He is on the beach most days.
Famous Vincent does fishing excursions .... if you want to do something really different, try spear fishing!
Do the reef a favor and spearfish for Lionfish. Very Tasty, and very rewarding. You must first learn how to handle them as they do have venomous spines that can give a very painful sting.
i have gotten a few lion fish ..... the spines make great tooth picks, JK ......
Phil&Cindy, thanks for the info and Zafai's #. That sounds like exactly what we want to do! See your from Burlington. We grew up in Monmouth/Galesburg!
Gerryg, how do we get a hold of Vincent?
Getting so excited :o
Check out Captain Stanley and do some real fishing! he has top of the line equipment and a great crew on all his boats.

My husband owns a 30' fiberglass called "Captain Jack". He has a rod and reel, if you want to use it, or you can try it the local way with outriggers (tree branches) and hand lines. A true, authentic Jamaican experience when you try to pull those fish in by hand! He typically catches blackback tuna, kingfish, and mahi mahi dolphin. PM me if you want his number.
Fish only beyond the reefs on the proper fishing vessel. Fish within the reefs of Jamaica is illegal. Spear fishing is illegal. Lion fish can be caught with a hand held spear that does not kill coral.
Please respect our coral reefs.
just got back, i asked a local fisherman how much, he asked 70.00 per hour, then dropped it to 50.00 , i even brought my own equipment, not worth it to me, soon come
Well said Rhodesresort!!
Listen up all you spearfishing folks.
I used to spearfish every day on the reef in the 70s. I love it....BUT THOSE DAYS ARE GONE
Take care of what's there now......
So you can spearfish every day but nobody else can? Lol. Who are you??? Nobody!!!! You should stick to wearing your tux and stay out of peoples business,
@jamaicarob...I agree, and knowing us, we will get so relaxed and lazy enjoying the beautiful sea in front of us, we probably won't end up doing much
