Re: Why is it call West End
I will be nice, so have you looked at a map? Negril is on the western end of the island, and the beach road was already the beach road so why not the westend as its on the western side of the island.

Okay, must be one of those "moron type"s you are referring to but, wouldn't that be on the South Side of Negril?
Inquiring morons want to know.

Yup, I know Negril is on the west end of the island and have looked at it on a map :) I guess my mistake is thinking of Negril roundabout as the center/hub and it that case the beach end would be west and the cliff end would be east. I guess I should, as you point out, be thinking of the island as a hole and if I do that then the cliffs and beach are the West End :)

LMOA, I thought maybe I misread it, I think your holding the compass upside down.

I was referring to myself as a "moron type" not anyone else on this board just "me" I guess I could have worded it more clearly
Re: Why is it call West End
When Negril was smaller, the Lighthouse Road (also called the West End Road and One Love Drive) started at the roundabout and went west only as far as Tigress Lane. So, the West End is called the West End because that the direction the road went from the roundabout. Also, the point between 3 Dives and the property just south of it is the western most spot on the island, so it is really as west as you can get.

Re: Why is it call West End
I was thinking that maybe the cliffs and Negril as a whole got the name West End from people living in say Savanna La Mar or Belmont area. I mean Negril beach area not just the cliff area is about as far west as you can get on the island of Jamaica?
Re: Why is it call West End
Nope, the West End has never included the beach area - it got the name from the locals who lived in Negril decades, perhaps hundreds of years ago...

Thanks Rob for the historical detail explaining how the name came about. That is what I was wanting to know should have worded my original question more clearly to get the answer I really wanted.
