Considering flying from MoBay to Negril
A few questions
#1 - Is there actual time saved between getting from the airport to your hotel in Negril - When you factor in - Boarding the flight and getting a cab from the aerodrome to your hotel?
#2 - timair or intlairlink - Or is there One I dont know about?
Any input would be great.
Re: Considering flying from MoBay to Negril
Tim at is the better choice, flip. We have used it multiple times. Your plane leaves when you get there... It is a true charter.
Here's my problem with it however. We have used Tim air maybe 20 times over the years. The service is great, they always take us on time. It is getting hella expensive however (and I fly first class from Philly, so generally do not care about the flight cost), and the planes are looking a little tattered. Last trip, I told the wife I was done with that.
Time savings is decent, as you will land directly across from couples negril, so depending on where you are staying, just a quick taxi ride. However, we did the shuttle once last year back to mobay, and realized we saved maybe 45 minutes all in.
You used to have to take a taxi from regular airport arrivals over to the Tim air lounge, this has changed, and it is an attached building now.
Finally, I am a big guy, and getting in and out of that plane is not a lot of fun. Last time, I had to fly in the co pilots seat... Not my favorite.
All in all, it is worth a try, but from someone who has done it multiple times... I am pretty much done with it.
Re: Considering flying from MoBay to Negril
I'd do it once more for the experience than the little bit of time savings. On a clear day, it's a blast.
Re: Considering flying from MoBay to Negril
We've done it that last two trips to Negril. Because we travel from Alberta and have to do a layover in Toronto, our overall travel time gets quite long. So we are happy to save any amount of time. And to be honest, we think of TimAir as an excursion of sorts. Flying along the coast line is beautiful.

What would something like that cost for two? Thinking about suprising Hubby~
Re: Considering flying from MoBay to Negril
Used to do it before the "NEW" road to Negril was completed. Most of the time it saved an hour or more. A couple of times it didn't.
I agree it is worth the experience, but.... "tings happen in Jamaica".... Weather, Pilot no show, mechanical problems, etc.... One time we waited an hour or more for the Pilot to show up. One time we had to buzz the runway several times in Negril to scare the goats off of it before landing.... One time we had a long wait for a Taxi to show up for a ride...
Re: Considering flying from MoBay to Negril
We flew with Intlairlink last Saturday. It was on my husband's bucket list....I'm not fond of flying in the first place, so I wasnt looking forward to it.
Instead of 1.5 hours (or more) to get to Mo Bay on a Saturday, we decided to give it a try. We arrived early, but only waited till another couple arrived.
As soon as they did, off we went. My husband, being the largest of the passengers, got in beside the pilot. He loved it. It was like getting in a flying cab! I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would . I was less nervous than flying in a normal plane. I would definately do it again. It took about 15 minutes instead of 90 minutes to Mo Bay, and avoided the traffic.
We've been to Negril many times, so we dont really do excursions anymore. We justified the $230 to do this, as the excursion that we didnt do. We thought it was worth it.

Re: Considering flying from MoBay to Negril
First. I would LOVE to ride copilot. I have always wanted to take flying lessons, so this might push me forward with that.
Second - Awesome about the buzzing of the runway for the goats. That's funny.
The issue is. I am hearing the boardie bash starts at noon and our flight lands at like 10:40. So we are trying to get to the party!
Re: Considering flying from MoBay to Negril
flying nice..but it hard for pilot to find landing for first road beer....

Flip,
No need to rush it. You will still have hours to party with the group. Maybe the expedited arrival thru Club Mobay will be a better alternative.
Re: Considering flying from MoBay to Negril
I always find that getting outa the airport is a bigger adventure than the ride to Negril, Have made it in a traxi and driving myself in a bout an hour several times. Getting in a t 10:40 the airport could be busy, so maybe the club Mobay might be a time saver. Oh and just do a carry on will save some more time!

We just booked our flight from Mo'Bay to Negril last week and it was $125 each/one-way. ($250)
Re: Considering flying from MoBay to Negril
We did it last year using Intal Airlink. Was a great experience but we did have a bit of a wait for the plane to arrive from Mo bay, Maybe about 20-30 mins. Flight was short only about 15 minutes and a great view. In your case, it may help you arrive right on time to the BB or just fashionably late :). Otherwise, we did it once and probably wouldn't again as 230 bucks can be spent on fun in Negril. Enjoy the trip, Flip!!!

LOL at the idea of Jackie getting by with a carry-on for 9 days.

Re: Considering flying from MoBay to Negril
We had booked Tim Air ahead of time to fly us into Negril and the cost was 230.00 per couple but when we got to the desk to pay there was another couple to fly with us so it only cost 180.00 for the 2 of us.Good deal for us and it was a windy flight that day so it was kind of like an amusement park ride,a little extra bonus!!!
Re: Considering flying from MoBay to Negril
Have you ever seen the mountains of Negril from the air ? The sugar cane smoke in the hills ? Thats why I look at it as a cool plane ride and quick transportation. Remember, when your'e going home they make you leave the hotel like 4 hours early. What if there is bad traffic a car accident.
With the plane you leave the hotel much later. I would try to book the plane for going home at the last minute in case it's rainy,if so then jump in a cab. I would not want to be in that little plane in the rain.
Re: Considering flying from MoBay to Negril
Been flying Tim Air for my once a year (19 years). I switched to Air Link this year #20..planes are in a lot better shape. Tim Air left me at MoBay last year without calling me & asking where I was. Long immigration line & I was pissed..I've waited for other guests many times for the same thing before at Tim Air & as a long time CASH paying customer I expect more....I do buisness with Air Link now! Bottom line 12 mins. by air verses 1.5hrs on the road & the road looks just fine from 2000'
Re: Considering flying from MoBay to Negril
If you have never flown over the Island then the view itself on a clear day is worth the trip. Make sure you know your luggage is with you, all of it. Other then that it is a great flight experience. We at one time called it trans high airlines.
