Reggae Music. Who is your favorite? (Besides Bob Marley)
20 years ago when my wife and I first went to Jamaica, we heard The Best of Maxi Priest everyday by the pool. He is still one of our favorites and we can't hear him without fondly remembering our first trip to Jamaica. (It was our 10th anniversary)
We return in a couple of weeks with our adult children for our 30th anniversary. It is their first reach. It make me wonder: Who is your favorite reggae artist that you discovered while in Jamaica?
Music is the soundtrack to our lives and I look forward to discover some new favorites!
Respect!
Greg

Re: Reggae Music. Who is your favorite? (Besides Bob Marley)
During a trip about 5 or 6 years ago we were staying @ Country Country. On this particular night we crashed fairly early and for some reason I woke up and could hear quite a concert going on, even inside our room. Turns out the sounds were coming from Wavz and the artist was Beres Hammond. The music was incredible, after sitting briefly on the porch and listening I decided I must follow my ears and see what was going on. Try as I might Badnaz was having none of it and told me to knock it off and go back to bed. So I waited for a few minutes and ventured off myself and caught the last 1/2 hour or so of what was just incredible music. Ever since then Beres has been one of my favorites.
As for the Badnaz, after telling her about it the next morning she started laughing and said I must have had quite a dream as she didn't remember any of it and swore I was next to her all night.
To this day I still smile every time I hear a Beres tune.

I love all the classic artists mentioned but there is a lot of really good newer reggae music also. Morgan Heritage, Luciano, Tarrus Riley, Etana, Queen Ifrica, Gyptian, Protoje, I-Wayne and on and on. Enough with the slackness, good music and conscious message are returning to the reggae mainstream!

Re: Reggae Music. Who is your favorite? (Besides Bob Marley)
Here is one that may not be on very mini peoples radar.
I came across it while reading the Keith Richards book. He talked about a bunch of a lose group of guys that would play together up in the hill of a town called Steer Town near Ocho Rios where Keith has a house.
The web site is www.winglessangles.com. I think you will find it interesting.
Enjoy a different sound.
