Please Help The Local Musicians Out.
If you can please bring some guitar strings for the local beach and club musicians.
Guitar strings are expensive for them and many can't afford to replace them too often.
You can get a sets at any local music store back home for $5.00 a set and they make a Great gift (tip) for them
Electric Guitar strings Medium Gauge or Light gauge sets
Acoustic Guitar strings Medium or Light gauge sets also.
Also a good set of drum sticks for our fav drummer , watch for the smile on their face. Cost about $10 a pair.
We all have favourite bands and strolling musicians on the beach that need our help.
So if you love the music please support it and keep it flowing.
Bless Up and Respect.

This is great info, Stan. I'll keep it in mind for my next trip.

Re: Please Help The Local Musicians Out.
Rasta Stan ... as I am still a newbie to Negril (I've only done it once ;) ), I would be happy to buy some strings and stuff for the musicians, but I would prefer to give it to you so that you can give it to the deserving! Would that be okay?

Re: Please Help The Local Musicians Out.

Re: Please Help The Local Musicians Out.
Jim-Donna , there is an old Mento band Guy on the beach called Sunny Face , not sure on the spelling, he wears a wool cap most days. He is the longest severing beach musician in Negril,I'm told. He'll love those Kazoos...Lolol Thanks.
Rasta Ronnie - Bless .
OUV11112- OUSTANDING, the young drummer at the Canoe or the guy at the Sea Star would love some sticks , just an idea. You have know idea how pleased they'll be with your gifts.
-
Re: Please Help The Local Musicians Out.
Jim-Donna I thing the Kazoo guy is named Son Facey....lol
OUV - I sent back a reply to you via PM

Re: Please Help The Local Musicians Out.
I always bring sets of guitar strings, sax reeds, picks and a few inexpensive mic and guitar cables. I can't imagine what the salt does to guitar strings!! See You Soon Rasta Stan!!
-
Re: Please Help The Local Musicians Out.
I knew you'd be in on this Phil...lol
I've taken SM58's , cords, tuners, picks ext for years. The salt air kills strings for sure.
If anyone does not know who to give anything they bring too , i'd be happy to help pass them along.
PM me and we'll hook up and I'll make sure they get where they are needed.
I'm at the Sea Star April 2-10th and The Coco La Palm April 10th till May 2nd. So we cam meet anywhere you'd like.
Now if only I can find a cheap bass drum pedal and some bass drum legs for the drummer Ricky at the Canoe my list for this year will be complete.
Thanks again for helping the hard working musicians of Negril.

Re: Please Help The Local Musicians Out.
These are all great ideas...I take a guitar each year and leave it with a musician...I love to play and jam with the musicians on the beach. If you have ever walked by the wall at the south end of CoCo's property and seen a jam then that is us playing.. I take plenty of strings and stuff but I don't like to go two weeks without playing so I started finding a hundred buck guitar each trip and taking it down. Towards the end of the trip I pass it on to a beach musician...This year was an exception as I took my Strat and played a set at Three Dives on the new stage with Clark's band...I have left 7 or 8 on the Island....Clip on tuners that clip to the head of the guitar is a great gift for 20 bucks...It benifits all of us when they can tune the guitar properly..Thanks Rasta Stan for this thread..."Hit me with music, when it hits you you feel no pain"

Re: Please Help The Local Musicians Out.
I know nothing about Guitar Strings - what should I be looking for? I'd imagine it's like anything else, there are good ones, bad ones and great ones... Any help appreciated :)

Re: Please Help The Local Musicians Out.
Thanks for asking 2nuts4travel,
The quick short answer, Medium Gauge set of Acoustic Guitar strings , Martin, Fender , any type really. For the beach musicians.
Club guys playing electric guitars , Medium or light gauge sets , fender or any name brand.
Any local music store will help you out , about $4.oo - $5.00 a set max.
Your going to make a local player happy

That's the plan - I really enjoy them so it's only fair! Hubby has wanted to do this the last few trips, but we always seem to forget until we get there and see them. Fortunately, that won't be the case this trip :)

Re: Please Help The Local Musicians Out.
2nuts 4travel , Thanks for pitching in and helping the local guys who play.
See you down there.
