Whats the story on going to bars and dealing with local girls? Any tips? I dont want to get in trouble?
They are all *****s. There are no pimps. This is the third world. Seek someone who knows the scene.
You will find no shortage of female company on the Island if you are single. Hell, if your wife walks away for more than an hour you might find company you were not necessarily looking for.
There are a lot of girls who are "Working". They are pretty easy to identify. Be careful. You might think you are having a nice friendly conversation and then they might ask for money for their time. I know this, because I have spent several drinking nights with single guys hanging around Negril and I have witnessed these things happen.
If I were you, I would be very careful about letting someone spend the night who you do not know. You might wake up with your possessions gone. This is not a tip only for Jamaica, but anywhere you are looking for a lady of the night. If you do find an enjoyable companion and decide to consummate the relationship... Your best option is probably to to give them money for a cab and have them leave before you go to sleep. This also eliminates that awkward moment the next morning, when you are all hungover and you look over and say "What have I done?!" I had a few of those in college. <--- Jackie, if you read this. you know i am reformed in my ways!
Well I must be lame, because I thought the original poster was merely asking if it was ok to flirt with and hang out with young Jamaican women he might meet on his vacation. I was thinking he wanted to know if that was cool or not to show his interest and respect to young Jamaican women. At least that is what I was hoping he asked....
I'm not so naive to be unaware that there are women in all of our counties, who because of economic need or childhood abuse, or drug use...end up selling their "company". But the women I meet in Jamaica are hardworking, warm and smart. I guess it depends what you're looking for.
Some wise words from the band Cheap Trick...
"Mother told me, yes, she told me
That I'd meet girls like you
She also told me, "Stay away
You'll never know what you'll catch"...
What kind of girls? Most bars have both girls and working girls, sometimes very hard to tell the difference, and sometimes not until its too late!
I have family in grange hill and they always tell me a way to identify the working girls is by their shoes or piercings. My cousin even went as far as to say, if she has on 4inch heels and can walk the beach with no problem...then you know.
No offense meant...:)
Just say no!! Not much different than all the vendors you run into. Well, except they are a little more upfront when they approach you. Not a big deal. It's all about respect.
the phrase "time is $" takes on a whole new literal meaning in JA lol
thats all i'm gonna say on this subject
Well not sure what duppy_conquror meant, but really Wha gwan?
I can relate to this topic because I am too in "the business" yeah I decided to um help pay for my Negril trip and be an Oddity....The White Male Hooker on the beach...Yeah thats right...I wear a Irish Kilt skirt and have red freckles..... Going for my market....You have seen me Im sure !
Thanks Summer...it was not the question, and most of the answers...it was "they are ALL b.......s" that was over the top. Sometimes I'm not clear and it's kind of important occasionally! :o
That was you, Fred? I didn't know or I would have at least said "Hi" instead of running in fear for my life.
You know you want it
Dont make me go all Plaid on you ?
One simple rule........."You make a bill-you had better pay it"
goes for the first drink, till the very expensive cab ride home the next morning.........you will learn "your true worth"

RESPECT everywhere, everyone, every time~~
There are most certainly pimps
you might make the plane....but you will Never be able to return to Negril.....dey neva forget a "debtor"
this is a fair question, and deserves a straight answer. fact is, some jamaican women, are as aggressive, and charming as the men are. you will be approached, you will be smooth talked, you will be asked for money.drinks.cigs.phone credit. single or not. some women are out to have some fun, some women are out to make some money.they look good, they smell divine.what you pay for is your business.go with the flow.dont be afraid to buy a few drinks, and share a few laughs.
I've been approached several times over the last 3 years.
Never had a problem but I speak and understand the language and culture.....If they even spend any time with me I talk like their grandad and either they leave or we chat...
Mostly these are good girls doing the best they can. Some are looking for some dollars to carry home to feed pickney.....Some are hoping to find a way out of poverty
It is what it is........
"Judge not lest ye be judged"
Cap
For the OP......PM Gerryg123......Gerry you out there?
*****s ?? What was he trying to spell Why are you angry?
Wow what a thread. Well here's the Limo Mon"s advise, going to Negril as a single guy you will end up with a lady no doubt. Some will approach you (a lot if single) others you will find by chatting. If your walking down da beach and girl says she like your big bamboo she is willing. When you hook-up take your lady to a cheap room (cliffs) not your home base. Like a taxi (lol) work out the price prior. Jamaica is the only place I know you can pay after you play lol.
Best tip is to find a male Ja friend at your resort and you"ll make friends tell 1 of them to take your to scrub- dub 1 night. Tell him you will pay him( 20 ) dollars to take you scrub-dub and he make sure you get back safe and you'll pay him when you make it back in the morning.
If you meet any ladies, be very careful about bringing them back to your room. When I read of hotel room thefts, it seems that sometimes they admit to having had locals/strangers (yes, people you meet on vacation are strangers! A local you just met at a bar is not your new best friend!) in their rooms, for whatever reason... and then at some point in their trip their stuff goes missing, and there's no sign of forced entry. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that it's a scam where they leave themselves (or an accomplice) access to your room through an unlocked window, door, etc... Or they stay the night, you wake up and they and your possessions are gone. I think that's why we read trip reports where it seems like info is left out... where the police aren't interested and don't want to take a report, and the resorts/hotels aren't helpful...
Remember, even though you're on vacation, you shouldn't let your guard down and do things in a 3rd world country that you wouldn't do at home.
I have met a few ladies in Negril. Some working some not. (you will know pretty quickly) I have had great conversations and laughs with both. I let the working girls know right away I am not interested, but still might buy them a drink or even something to eat now and then. You can make friends and have a good time without having to pay for a lady to spend some time with you. I have met many Jamaican woman who are not "Working Girls" . They are attractive, smart and mostly hard working.
