That's because the weather's been so crappy here behind the Cheddar Curtain :p
It's addictive:) I spend far tooooo much time on here, looking for pictures, trip reports ANYTHING!
Back in the mid 1990's it was Beingee's. Been hooked ever since. Trust me, it just gets worse!!!
Enjoy,
VVHT
I truly enjoy reading a first timer's trip report especially seeing (Jamaica or Negril) with a fresh set of eyes. It is mainly because I marvel at how the "likkle tings" captivate and enthuse them when, perhaps, I sometimes have a more jaded view having gone so many times.
I especially love to read about the first time a visitor ventures out of the Negril "comfort zone" and goes to places like Black River, Mayfield Falls or exploring the caves at Roaring River etc.. There is more to Jamaica than Negril although Negril does have some very good points.
I think a lot of people peruse the board looking for familiarity with their trip experiences. This way they can help a future traveler avoid any mistakes that they may have made. Of course, everyone considers themselves to be a expert (even after only one visit! )
What this board does quite effectively is to help promote those businesses that are getting it right and allowing people to point out deficiencies when they exist without bashing. After all, you can't judge a poster by the quantity of postings but only by the quality. Some people have twice as much to say with only half as much information.

I spend far too much time on here, don't know if it helps me get by until the next trip or if it is just plain torture to myself because I am not there :p
I won't admit how many hours a day I spend on here :)
I think Accompong has nailed it on the head, we are all looking for familiarity. We want to know that we are "getting it right" when we are there and looking for confirmation that we are doing so.
We don't want to miss out on a single thing that Negril has to offer and learning by others experiences is the best way to do that.
If it wasn't for this board I don't know that I would have ventured out of my comfort zone and had the experiences that I have in Negril.
I loooooooooooove this board :o
All of us at Negril.com have to say a big thank you to all the folks who have made our Negril Message Board the best single source of helpful, factual and useful information since it was created back on July 31st, 1997.
http://www.realnegril.com/beingees/nn310797.htm
Even back then there was so much interest in the board that we had to upgrade it nearly immediately just one week later!
http://www.realnegril.com/beingees/nn060897.htm
While we did go through some growing pains several years back, improperly allowing rumor, speculation, personal attacks and off topic comments to nearly become the norm, we have returned the focus of the board to its original intention - useful information about Negril and Jamaica! And since we have upgraded to the new board software just under two years ago (May 2011), we have almost 4300 registered members. This is over 300 more members than we attained during the previous 6 years of the old board (2006-2011).
And again we have all of you to thank - our great supporters who have provided others with such great information, making Negril.com and the Negril Message Board the best source of information about Negril available anywhere on the internet!
A big up to all of you! And thanks!
No Rob - thanks to you and Lisa for everything you do!
Your Welcome,:)
Most if not all message board software do not allow this option as it can cause both issues with the database that displays the information and also would allow spammer and hackers to sign up, make their spam or hacking posts, then delete their account leaving no trace of where the post came from. This is a safety issue for any site that operates a message board.
One of the easiest ways to not participate on a message board is simply to not log in and make any posts.
Booger, my take on unregistering. If you want to leave just leave.....don't post anymore. No need to announce it.....shrug:cool:
I've been a regular visitor and participant on this board, in it's various incarnations, since the fall of 1998. I came here at the recommendation of my oldest and dearest friend and former boardie Aminal Al in preparation for my first trip to Jamaica for his wedding. Over the years I've seen many a boardie come and go for various reasons but I still return almost daily. I remember the wild and wooly anything goes days here and they were fun at times but invariably things would fall into bickering and botheration until feelings were hurt and people would leave but the vibe would always chill back out and on we would go. Other Negril related forums were started by some of those who left and a couple still exist. What amazes me is how much energy is still spent on those boards complaining about this one. To each their own. As for me, this board will always be my way of keeping my digital toe in the water and sharing my favorite place with friends new and old. Thanks Rob.

I first found the board in the early 2000s, became addicted fast also! :) Even though I disappeared for a while im back to my usual obsessive viewing of posts webcasts etc......... :) Once I go back to work full time soon after this depressing winter finally ends I might not be on as much but I will still be on when i can! :) Have known Rob for a long time and like i posted before have always been envious of his life there! :) Thanks Rob for the website!

It beats working!
Negril.Com has become like the Bible of Negril but they have a Bar Crawl Bus too.
I joined this board three years ago after 28 years of not living in Ja.
It has been and is a fantastic asset.
Welcome to da Board!
wealth of knowledge on here........read read read.........lol
Cool Runnings, Marko
LOL Accompong..... That was classic. Seriously though, a couple of replies have me here scratching my head. My class has been challenged, I have received a shrug as well and a long time veteran has posted a novel about why, just why he loves all things Negril. Not sure why a few here think I am taking shots. My question was diplomatic and asked a simple question. No hate coming from this side, that I can assure you. So, how about them Angels?
This board for me, is a way to feel close when I am far..............
