Coffee guy in negril

The wife and I have invited my best friend (and the best man from my wedding) to travel with us this year.

He is a jamaica newbie, but addicted to the coffee I have brought back many times.

I'm really not interested in taking a day trip to the blue mountain region, and I know you guys have talked about someone who roasts the beans in their yard.... Any direction here? Want to add at least that trip to our itinerary.

I am going to do a few of the day trips I have not done in a few years like the falls, etc... But the coffee one is really going to make it for him if I can get it fresh roasted.

I think it is a guy named thunder who roasts in his yard by the beach road.

Thunder also Big Roy at Cafe Goa roast and sells beans.

Fresh roasted at the Blue Mountain Coffee Shop beside Hidden Paradise on the morass side of the beach road. Ask Latoya and she will do it up as you wait and have breakfast if you like. I recommend the ackee and saltfish, with plenty of Grace's hot pepper sauce.

I can't tell you all how glad I am to read this thread. I will be paying Thunder a visit in just a few more weeks. Question for those of you who have purchased from him or Big Roy...what is the going price these days? I'd be embarrassed to admit what I'd pay for REALLY good coffee, but don't want to overpay (too much) just because I'm an addict. Haha Thanks in advance for the advice.

A few years back we went up to Big Roy's yard in Sheffield, about 15 a minute drive, and spent the afternoon roasting coffee with him. It was a great time. Just ask him, if you want the full experience.

20 a pound from Roy is correct. We got some that didnt have that bold coffee flavor that you get in the restaurants. Next batch he roasted darker (longer) and we liked that more.

I really need to bring back more coffee than normal!

Thunder roasts his coffee in his back yard and his cost is $20 per pound. I just love his coffee and he is lots of fun to chat with as well. He is on the morass side of the road across from Grand Pineapple. Just ask anyone where to find Thunder and you will find him.

Thank you Ras Walleye, likkle red, browser59, and Rob. It's good to know the prices I was seeing post from a year or more ago are still the same. Ras Walleye, your recommendation is right up my alley! I spent my last reach in the kitchen with the staff for all but 2 meals. I love to be a part of it all and enjoy day to day life. My first couple visits to Negril, I did all the tourist stuff. Now it's all about the culture, the people, the food, and that wonderful island vibe. Hubby and I have been trying to find special "excursions" for this trip. It's a birthday and anniversary trip and has been long awaited and anticipated. If anyone else has recommendations for any "full experiences" like this, let me know! I'd love to hear what you've been allowed to be a part of that the typical tourists never see or do. The original and oldest coffee supplier of fresh roast Blue Mountain Coffee in Negril is The Blue Mountain Coffee shop on the Beach Road across from Merrils 1, next to Hidden Paradise.

I get mine from Thunder too. He is located across the road from Alfred's a bit down the road behind Miss Sonia's. Just ask for him and you will be directed.
