Help needed for Steve Dias of the CoCoLaPalm staff - lost everything in a fire
This past Saturday, Steve lost every personal item he had, except, literally, the clothes on his back, in a fire at his home. Noone was hurt,; but, his home was a total loss and, of course, no insurance. He doesn't even have an ID, since it also was burned up in the fire.
Mi Lady and I have known Steve for 10 years and he is a humble, God-fearing man, who would do anything for you. He has been a volunteer helping the children of Negril stay on the straight and narrow. If you have been to the CoCo, you probably have seen him working the beach, the pool, or helping out at the beach bar. I will search for a pic of him to add to this thread.
The CoCoLaPalm has set up a donation line and a mailing address that can be used to help Steve rebuild his shattered life,
The CoCoLaPalm is matching donations up to $ 5,000 US:
Call Carlene, CoCo's Marketing Manager, at 1-800-303-0888 to use a credit card to send money to Steve. Or, send a check or money order to the CoCo's Minnesota office at CoCoLaPalm, 7225 Hemlock Lane North, Suite 107, Maple Grove, MN 55369. Have the check made out to the CoCoLaPalm with instructions that the funds are to go to Steve Dias' Rebuilding Fund or directly to Steve if you prefer.
Please send whatever you can.
This is a perfect opportunity to help someone on the island that we love who has had his share of accidental misfortune (his Father passed away during the past Christmas holidays). I know if this happened to me, I would need help from people just like you. Please consider helping this young man get back on bis feet.

I have no way of communicating directly with Steve; but I will ask that question of Carlene and get back with the answer when it comes.

Steve is a wonderful young man whom I have known for many years. I will glady donate to his household fund and have also let several couples whom I know that know Steve about the fire. I am sure that they will also send money along. This is the second fire that has hit the Coco family. Several years ago Donavan the carver who has a stand there lost everything as well.

Thanks for letting us know about Steve.
We are arriving at CCLP next Tuesday and will definitely make a donation while we are there.
Any word back from Carlene about what we could bring for him?

Carlene has not responded to my email as of yet. I will try another source.

Re: Help needed for Steve Dias of the CoCoLaPalm staff - lost everything is a fire
I just spoke with Steve and this is what he told me:
He needs everything.
So, if you don't want to donate cash, and you are going down in the near future, maybe you can find a little room in your suitcase for some of the following:
For Steve: Shoes and socks, size 10; Jeans, size 32 waist, any length 34 or longer; Shirts, large.
He has a 11 year old daughter who is 4' 5" and wears a large or medium in girls.
He also has a 4 year old son who is about 3' tall and slim.
He wasn't certain of sizes for his kids.
Anything you could bring a drop off at the CoCoLaPalm for Steve would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone can bring extra personnel supplies like soap, deoderant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc I am sure this would also be greatly appreciated by Steve and his family.
Bless all of you for helping Steve and his family out...they are good people.

Lots of people saying they are going to help. Thank you and we need more. Please consider bringing something if you are going to be in Negril soon or donating what you can through the resort. It will come back to you five fold!

Re: Help needed for Steve Dias of the CoCoLaPalm staff - lost everything is a fire
We're staying at CCLP from the 19th to the 26th. We're making room in our bags for some stuff to bring down. Does he need household items too, or is it to early for that?

Re: Help needed for Steve Dias of the CoCoLaPalm staff - lost everything is a fire
Steve is a wonderful guy. He has always done me right. I'll be sending some $$ with pleasure. Sorry about his misfortune...

I'm sure Steve could use household items too. Not too early. Steve will appreciate anything you can bring.
Thanks for supporting him.

Thanks, Fred! Maybe get with Catcha and see if they want to do something for the families. That's basically what I did in this case with the CocoLaPalm.

We met Steve today. He is very shook up from the fire and grateful to be alive. He felt like if
he was a man he could have saved his house.Like I said, shaken to the core. We muled down a few basic kitchen necessities, he needs to catch a break.

Got a big smile with that message. He told us what great people you are. I made sure to tell him that you were organizing the effort to help. Steve was surprised that we only knew each other over the internet, he thinks we should meet:)

I am sending a check tomorrow to the MN Coco office. Steve has been good to us, and we're heading back to Negril (finally) for 2 glorious weeks in December. I can't wait. It will be 2 yrs. by Dec., since we were there, at Coco pon da beach. Love it there.
Thanks for posting this information, Weathermon. Say HI to Helen, too, from Karen.

Good to hear from you, Karen. Maybe we'll cross paths in December. And thank you for thinking of Steve.
