I may have an issue with one of my bank cards, I do not want to go into all the details but I would like to know if there are any shops, low cost rooms dining places that accept card as payment and who you trust. Thanks.

 there has to be somewhere
i have only used my card at Times Square and a few times at HiLo and had no problems.
Do you mean credit card or debit card? I thought debit cards were useless except for ATMs.
We use our debit cards (at home) as credit cards all the time. The funds come out of our checking account, but we don't have to use a pin. Have never used it in Jamaica, though.
I've used regular credit cards and my Bank of America Visa debit card for years and have never had an issue...as long as the place accepts credit cards. B of A has a global alliance with Scotiabank so there's no ATM fees when withdrawing cash from Scotia ATMs when using a BofA debit card.
Actually b of a charges 1% from a scotia ATM.. Only know because we called
Tic....are you talking about putting things on your card because you need to put them on credit? There are all kinds of duping scams in JA....I never use my CC....always settle my hotel bill with cash....the only card that comes out is the ATM/Debit Card....every other day....20kJMD each time....I still don't get traveler's checks in this day and age....NCB and my bank have affinity, so I don't get charged a fee and I get darn close to the LIBOR rate....Like somebody posted, be careful, some banks don't tell you that they will alter the exchange rate by 1 percent or more in their favor.....
We use our card for hotel payment through NEGRIL ONE STOP (we always book through them!). They are not in Negril, and I trust them 100% with my card/info.
In Negril, I have used a CC at grocery store and that is it. My bank knows that we travel (I alert them), and tell them that the max transactions to any JA business should be $200 US, not to exceed $1000 our entire trip. Never had a problem, but do not expect to with these tight limits. In case of a mass emergency that we would need more (rebooking air tickets), I would simply call my CC company and change the "rules".
Otherwise, if I buy more that $1000 in groceries, I have issues!
personally mi tell people not to use their credit cards when going out to like dinner etc.....
to use one to pay for your room would be fine..........or at HiLo is fine........or at MegaMart in MoBay
mi have used Debit Cards at SeaStar Inn and Bourbon Beach and never had a problem........
used a Credit Card at the the Dentist in Negril and no problem..........
overall mi don't think it's a great idea to be using your CC or Debit Cards all over the place........
use a select few and you'll be fine.......

I use my credit card in Jamaica all the time, everywhere, without issues. If there were an issue, my liability is $0. My card charges no transaction fees at all, so I get an excellent rate.
I wouldn't use my debit card as a credit card there though, only to get cash from an ATM. I don't want to have $ taken out of my account while they sort out any fraud. So I only use the actual credit card for purchases there.
Though I paid cash for my hotel (Xtabi) to get the discount, I paid with my debit card for my room charges for food and beverages. Had no problem worked just as expected. All other transactions were cash, exept for ATMs.
Correct, there is a foreign transaction fee of 1% however the ATM fees are waived just like when you use a BofA ATM. I use my BofA debit card for withdrawing cash at Scotia ATMs...I use a Capitol One platinum Master Card for large expenses like paying for our hotel as it's the only credit card I have that does not charge any foreign transaction fees.
Tic, try Pure Gardens...they accept credit cards and their prices are reasonable...never had an issue with them...
They did not mention that!! Must have not known.. Oh well i got a bank account with a local place that reimburses transaction fees within 24 hours or a little longer for foreign they said..
I've used a CC not a debit card for hotel stays at various properties and "high" end restaurants such as Ivan's & Rockhouse, I wouldn't have an issue using it at Hi Low either. But mostly I use TC and convert to cash. I would never use a debit card while there.
Bar-b-Barn
Have used both ATM and CC at Sea Splash to pay for room, food and drink charges and never had a problem. We always just go to the office and pay.
I've used mine at Times Square, mostly in Tropicana and the other jewelry store across from it. I always take an emergency card with me as well... Just in case. One caveat though, is that I always tell the banks I am dealing with exactly when I will be there... Turn it on on this day, turn it off on this day.
I know that many think Travelers Checks are as ancient as dinosaurs....but, they do have advantages. To this day, still bring some cash, a credit card, debit card and a bunch of TC's. Just be sure and keep the copies in a separate place and you are good to go. Never had any problems cashing them, even at some of the smaller grocery stores on the cliffs. Take an ID with you, Drivers License works...no need to carry around your passport. I always would rather be safe than sorry. Never can tell when one could loose a debit card, have it be damaged in a machine or whatever...TC's are a great cushion of comfort IMHO. Have fun TicToc, as if that is a problem. LOL :)
I pay Seastar with my CC
I do everything else in Ja. About 100K over a long weekend. Hardware and stuff for the yard has to paid for in cash.
ATM costs .7% Works for me
