picking some from the trees is cool and fresh in the bottles from the juice guy on the beach, had a mango salad at ivans it was excellent.
1990 nice thoughts. Love the ideas. Mango salad oh my. Thanks.
That is mango season. There will be plenty. You will be able to get them at any fruit stand.
Try to find a St. Julian ("julie") or West Indian variety. They're the best some say.
I prefer "stringy" and "gatey". Out at my yard we have several dozen trees of all kinds.
I wish they would bring back the Mango Festival in Delveland.
Hi Bob-I got mango's almost every day from Cordiss (the lady walking the beach). They were so good, She peeled and sliced them. The juice was running down my arms. Needed a little bath when I was done.
Don't forget to buy her some Mango Candies like Smith744 talks about.
Mango smoothies with a little rum!
Two years ago we were staying at The Oasis in the cliffs area. There were plentiful mango trees on the property with ripe mangos. We indulged, or is that over-indulged with fresh mango daiquiries.
Very delicious!

she will be surprised at how sweet the mangoes are in Jamaica ...and how many different varieties there are . If you are going to eat lots of mangoes, the fruit isnt the person to buy from ...it would cost you a small fortune ..buy them from fruit vendors on the street, in the square, in the marke etc .. or ck with one of the staff wherever you plan to stay .. mangoes can be had in fruit salad, smoothies, drinks with a little ginger , verrryy ripe ones on top of pancakes.,, and with icecream... best way is to sit with 6 or more and get your face and hands all messy with the juices ..
julie's........................all the time
Thank you all so much. I cannot wait until tomorrow when I see my mom and share with her all this really fantastic mango stuff. Mango over pancakes, mango salad, mango candy, mango smoothies, mangos with juice running down your arms, mangos of many types, cool mango pictures. Oh she will want to leave tomorrow. Thanks to all of you. Dreaming mangos...
Chuck and Cap those are beautiful shots. Thanks.
If you can, do as Ackee suggested, look for vendors on the street - they will have buckets or boxes of them, often selling them by the bag (like a half-gallon size) for small money. Every day is something/someone different selling.
If you buy Julie, make sure they are firm, not soft; if soft they will be mushy and not so nice.
There are many varieties of mango, your Mom will be in mango heaven!
Nice Lola, mango heaven is exactly the goal and you have brought us closer to the party. Thanks. Buckets and boxes of mangos, oh so much fun. Mmmmmm ....
Bring your own sharp knife for maximum convenience!
Can you get CHEESE with that burger ?
I like squishing the mango while its in the skin, then I just tear a hole in the top with my teeth and squeeze the goodness right into my mouth. I am salivating as I write this and wish I had a REAL mango , not those hard green ones in the grocery store.
Kindred spirit! I'm also headed for Negril to experience mango season. 5/28-6/4. Mango varieties in Jamaica like apples in the US ... Number Eleven / Blackie / Julie / East Indian / Bombay … It's as if you lived in the Caribbean and the only apple you've ever known was a Red Delicious. Most of the best varieties don't grow in Negril. They're in the greener, wetter parishes. Will there be variety at the fruit stands in downtown Negril? Do we have them procured? When I get in I'll ask around who on staff has family on farms in-island. Or maybe a mango excursion taxi. I'm a Whole Foods kinda guy, so looking for the real deal: mangos grown for the Ital diet. Yum mon!
Having fun reading all your cool mango thoughts and images to my mom. She is getting excited. You all make us feel like we are at the mango party already. Thanks so much. David hope to see you in Negril in front of a mango salad, drinking a mango smoothie, etc.
Dave great questions. Thanks.
