Leaving tomorrow, and can't sleep! So wired! I have cleaned for the house/cat sitter; I have packed and repacked. I cannot sleep! My daughter is a bazillion kilometres away and flooded out and evacuated in Calgary (she's Safe & fine .... Bless the Cell Phone Gods!). I wonder why sleep alludes me?

Make sure you set that alarm clock - cause when you do pass out you may not wake up in time! I always worry that this will be the one morning I sleep through the alarm - or I've forgotten to set the alarm.

Irie always: i will set multiple alarms because i always have the same fear AND i'll check them compulsively to make sure they are set for AM not PM.
I usually do all my packing in the wee hours before it's time to leave for the airport since I'm too excited to sleep anyway. Even after 14 years and 18 trips. To paraphrase the Beastie Boys. No, Sleep, Till Negril!
I have to leave my house at 3 AM so there is really no "night before". I plan to sleep 8 hours from 4 Pm to midnight, the day before, but NEVER do. I wind up 'resting' in bed form 9 pM to 11Pm , then get up and leisurely get ready for 3 am departure from my house. There is no sleep involved, in the end.
I think I'm on the same flight as 7mile only further from the airport. I have to leave at 1:30 so no sleeping.

We always head to Chicago the night before and stay in a Park and Fly hotel. Those of you who have to do it every day wouldn't think so, but we like to ride the L downtown and poke around a bit and we usually get back to the O'Hare area in time to hit The Great Escape for dinner. After a good meal and a few cocktails in the room, getting to sleep isn't much of a problem and we don't have to get up nearly as early to make it to the airport. We found an alternative to ParkSleepFly last year called BuyReservations.com, check them out.

It really doesn't cost much more to get a room with a few weeks parking included than it does to just park for 2 weeks.
Ras kind of summed up my attitude. I am never able to sleep the night before. The Philly flight leaves fairly early, and combined with the need to be there early, our distance from the airport, and my continual fretting that I have forgotten something, the car service will be late, I did not pack enough cash, and worrying that the pet sitter will not do their job, sleep is pretty much out. Generally, I fall asleep an hour into the flight, and am in bed by 9 on the day we arrive. I think I have some kind of trip OCD as well... Last year, I had a note in my suitcase, carryon and on my nightstand that said make sure wife shows you the passports when you get up.

ditto,,, we Stay n Park close to ORD...its safer than parking at ORD, much much cleaner (Jet Soot)....and they get you to Airport
before your flight, and pick you up 100 feet from the door back.......drive to the trunk of your car, tip "di mon" and go home 90 minutes later, sleeping with our puppies in our own bed........

I can NEVA sleep so I always pack and repack in advance so the night of I'm chilling relaxing and at the neighborhood bar usually until they close and by that time its my time to head to the airport...
My last reach so glad I stuck to this routine becuz while I was at the bar I received a notification that our flight was delayed 5hrs. which would've had us landing in JA at 4 something!!! I kindly put my drink down call the airlines and pretty much begged them to put us on another flight Yea Mon they did and we got there early 10:50am!!! ...So the moral of this story Do Not Go To Sleep the night before...haha...
