Rob, Lisa, or anyone ... extend stay past 90 days??
I want to book a F.F. Miles ticket that would put me 17 days over the 90 day maximum per visit. I want to be there for my Daughters High School Graduation ~ that will likely take place in December. How difficult is it to get an extension for days over 90??
Thanks!

The hardest pert is actually getting to the immigration office in Montego Bay! (grin)
It is surrounded by one way streets and if you dont pass it and swing around and come back on it, you cannot get into the driveway!
Other than that, and ja$10,000, it is a rather painless procedure. Be sure to bring all your documents.

Just a quick addition.
Make sure you have a copy of your return Itinerary. Gave me fits when I didn't have one and had to find an Internet Café to print one out. Took an hour longer. Grrr.

Accompong, You made me feel a little less stupid because I did the same thing the first time I went...

Re: Rob, Lisa, or anyone ... extend stay past 90 days??
Right ... last time I went for 3 months, I did not have a copy of my return ticket at Immigration ~ They took me back to their offices to have me pull up my my Delta Account to prove I had a return ticket already booked! I know better now!
Thanks ~

Re: Rob, Lisa, or anyone ... extend stay past 90 days??
I was there about 2 months ago. I was sent upstairs for a preliminary interview, then downstairs to pay, then back upstairs for the final processing. Even tho I needed that stop at the Internet cafe for itinerary printout (brought the wrong one with me), it was super-quick and I was done in about 35 minutes.
Laurel, make sure you wear or carry a shirt or wrap that covers your shoulders! I wore a nice tank-style dress with wide straps and the guard still told me to cover; of course I had brought a scarf 'just in case'. :)
You know how government forms usually have some kind of date on the bottom re: the version/revision? The date on my receipt was 1928 :D

Re: Rob, Lisa, or anyone ... extend stay past 90 days??
too right Lola .... I usually always am "covered" ...:o
-
Re: Rob, Lisa, or anyone ... extend stay past 90 days??
Like Rob said, the "cover" charge is $ 10,000 J
-
Re: Rob, Lisa, or anyone ... extend stay past 90 days??
I'm sure this is a dumb question but....why do they care whether your shoulders are covered?

Re: Rob, Lisa, or anyone ... extend stay past 90 days??
It is a government agency. They do have a minimal dress code, just as they dont allow guys to have their underware showing... (grin)

Re: Rob, Lisa, or anyone ... extend stay past 90 days??
Over decades of dealing with Jamaican Government Offices around the island, I can attest that the people in charge at these places take their power very seriously. The last time I went for an extension of stay, I was upset by not having the return itinerary with me coupled with the 90+ degree weather. When I filled out the paperwork I added something like "this is just Jamaica's way of extorting money from tourists to run the government"..... big mistake!
The normal @ 1hr process went on for over 2 hours until the Immigration Officer called me in to his office and advised me that he had the sole discretion to give me the extension or not. He could, he said, deny me and force me to leave the island within 24 hours. That got my attention real quick!
I profusely apologized for my behavior and offered to write a new form and he accepted the apology and handed me another. Needless to say, I filled it out with glowing statements about Jamaica, the Immigration Process etc.. It all worked out well and we have become somewhat friends. He and I shared a cold Red Stripe on another occasion.
I learned my lesson.

necessary form can b completed priorto going to immigration office .... http://www.pica.gov.jm/PICA/media/Ap...).pdf?ext=.pdf
u will also b asked to write ur reasons for wanting to stay ..... u don't need alot of info but is necessary. take passport and return itinerary. yes, sleeves or some cover is necessary and b careful w/shorts as what they consider short, i do not. open toe shoes did not seem to b an issue. with all things ...b respectful. it is their country and their rules.

Canadian citizens can stay up to 180 days as long as you have passport and return ticket. I thought that this also applied to US citizens?

Re: Rob, Lisa, or anyone ... extend stay past 90 days??
After 90 days...you will need to apply for an extension of another 90 days at the Immigration in Montego Bay or Kingston...whether you are US or a Canadian citizen.

Re: Rob, Lisa, or anyone ... extend stay past 90 days??
Kahuna,
That website must be out of date or not complete - even Canadians only receive 3 months, then need to get an extension for the additional 3 months which costs j$10,000. You can stay up to 180 days, but you need to pay for the time over 3 months.

No. I stay for 5 and 6 months at a time. They will only look at the return ticket and then stamp you for the 90 days as described previously requiring you to get an extension before it expires.
