More resorts and even restaurants and bars are installing security cams - pro or con, they are here to stay...

In theory, I really don't like the idea that we're on camera everywhere. But I expect it these days at hotels and resorts and think on balance it's probably a good idea.

Wonder if Hedo has security cameras, bet they could see some pretty strange things if they did!!!

Re: Security cams are they necessary?, Resorts obligation for customer safety?
I can see the benefits. Only if someone is actually monitoring them, however.

Re: Security cams are they necessary?, Resorts obligation for customer safety?
its fine as long as they are clear enough to provide definite identification...and if they are there as a "intervention device" they are responded to in a timely fashion ......something tried is better than empty rooms and eventually loss of tourism......

Any business owner, no matter where the location, is stupid to not have video cameras.

Re: Security cams are they necessary?, Resorts obligation for customer safety?
Just think they can be a positive means of clearing someone that is in a bad situation. if it was mean in da hot plate i would be happy to show that there is no problem hook me up... and the resort can prove or show reality . anyway bless mon!

Security cameras are purchased in hopes of crime prevention, but IMHO it takes a very sophisticated vendor to propose and install anything that amounts to something more than snake oil, smoke and mirrors.

We have 9 security cameras dotted around the property here where I work P/T in So. Fl. at a motel. We don't make a big deal about it but find it gives our guests some peace of mind to know they are being looked after.
There is probably a deterrent factor with these cameras but we have turned over footage 3 times to the Local Police and all three times it has resulted in some level of prosecution for the offenders.
Cameras and recorders are very inexpensive now. Our 9 camera/ 2 terabyte recorder costs less than $1000 US and considering the increased business that the peace of mind brings, that is a real bargain in our opinion.
BTW, we did all the installation and do all the maintenance ourselves.
Peace and Guidance

If word got out that for instance a place like xtabi had them ,I wonder if you would have lost your stuff?sometimes just the increased risk will deter some!

Re: Security cams are they necessary?, Resorts obligation for customer safety?
Even if they are not monitored they are still a deterrent. I would paint them pink to make sure they know it is there, word gets around.

I think BarBBarn has a system....I was enjoying a sub one day, when the security told me about them, pointed me to an area out of camera range....
