People have the craziest ideas.
On my Facebook page, I have "liked" a couple of resorts. There was a thread started today, where a woman asked what to pack. She got the usual responses, but my favorite was....
"Make sure to stock up on antibiotics, they don't have western meds, and their medicines will not work on us"
Really? I mean really?? Apparently, Jamaica is now the wilds of the world, with only rum and coconut to live off of. I may have to stay away from that page for a bit.

At least the ignorance and small-mindedness of other people give us something to laugh about :D

Re: People have the craziest ideas.
Never mind the fact that we had a visa program in place at my last job for Jamaican and Phillipino nurses... Those two countries have some of the best trained... But she can assure me that they have no western medicine.

Re: People have the craziest ideas.
Smh...ignorance at its best. Ive seen western meds in downtown negril and in mobay.

Re: People have the craziest ideas.
I ran out of my allergy meds while there. I took the empty bottle to the pharmacy and was given a similar one. The ONLY difference was the name - instead of acetaminophen it is paracetamol, which I know is a British name (I have bought this in England). So, as I see it, there does not appear to be a problem. Oh, and it worked exactly the same as the one I get here.

Re: People have the craziest ideas.
Wow, the screenshot Hussyband posted of that message board. Kristin, a citizen of Jamaica, spent a week in the hospital in Negril?
-
Re: People have the craziest ideas.
sounds suspect.
like a white lie to try and be right...but mayyybe????
-
Re: People have the craziest ideas.
As there is no hospital in Negril it calls the veracity of her information into question.
-
Re: People have the craziest ideas.
I forgot about that... Back to Facebook.

Re: People have the craziest ideas.
Gheez...I looked at Kristin Deering Sullivan's facebook page....she Likes a group called "ban cliff diving at Ricks..", and in the comments, says she has filed a personal injury suit in Jamaica. What a nut.

Re: People have the craziest ideas.
Medications can be imported from many places ... so i can see where they might indeed have some drugs coming from various different countries - including Arabic-speaking ones. But regardless, the medication is the same drug - just with a different name, as someone noted. And hello - just cause she got ONE like that, in ONE circumstance, doesn't mean ALL their medications are 'not western meds'. I would guess they might have various medications that have been manufactured in, and imported from, several different places.
And regardless of where a medicine originated, they all work the same on all human bodies. There's just no sense to the comment that 'their medicines don't work on us'. Really? uh, so,.... who do they work on? Aliens? Not your basic garden-variety human being? well DANG.
This gal just isn't very swift.
and I'd also like to know what hospital she was in, 'in Negril'.

Re: People have the craziest ideas.
It's worse. She lives in my neighborhood, and works at the ski place up the road from me. I am not saying another damn thing. I do not need crazy at my door. We are all filled up at present.

Re: People have the craziest ideas.
Well the way I see it she probably wont return...
DO you really want someone who would lie so blatantly to be your island mate?
And if she turns anyone off to the island ...
Do you really want people that are that gullible not to do their own investigation into a vacation destination as your island mates?
I DONT... but hey... humanity

Re: People have the craziest ideas.
This is quoted from someone who has been down here enough times :) & is apparently engaged to a Jamaican....not ridiculing this person...but as we can see...lot's of misinformation out there....
"they do not sell beef in Jamaica like ground beef, beef franks, turkey ground or corned beef hash also i like to bring corn-dogs and albacore tuna in the can you cannot find that food in Jamaica supermarkets trust me there's a lot of foods we eat they don't sell".
