Where to stay - Decisions, Decisions
I am heading off to Negril for the first time early January. I have decided to stay on the beach area. I'm not into AI's and costs are an issue as I would love to keep it below $50 a night. I have narrowed my search down to Greenleaf Cabins and Roots Bamboo but find the latter to be a little expensive for something that appears comparable to Greenleaf. I would love some recommendations/suggestions for FUN FUN places for a single male to stay at. I really don't want to be alone and must confess that this remains an issue with me. The quality of the accommodation is not a big issue with me save to say that security and comfortable bed are non-negotiable.
I would love any views on the above two properties or if there are any suggestions.
Thanks

Re: Where to stay - Decisions, Decisions
Greenleaf would be fine.......shooter1 hangs der.......
you shouldn't pay much for Roots Bamboo as it doesn't really offer anything beside being on da beach........
another place might be JahB's across from Roots Bamboo.......decent cottages
or Tropical Fantasy across from the Boat Bar..........decent too
Cool Runnings, Marko

Re: Where to stay - Decisions, Decisions
You could also try Moonrise Villa across from Idle Awhile.

Re: Where to stay - Decisions, Decisions
If Roots is too much, consider Villa Mora (876) 957-4206 which is directly across the street from Roots Bamboo and is priced right. Greenleaf is also fine.

Re: Where to stay - Decisions, Decisions
Check with bourbon beach nice room there for $50/night with $20/night food drink credit included if you can get the special, probably can this time of year, good luck, or ask around, rooms can be found for $20/night, seen! Sorry didn't see jan when I wrote this, still if you ask around $30/night is definitely possible.

Bourbon beach... The rooms are not the greatest. But you can get a room for about 55 bucks. Cold AC, TV. There are plenty of ladies at BB that will want to keep you company (for a nominal fee). They have live entertainment several nights a week..
As for the bed comfort.. My bed at home is certainly more comfortable, but they aren't the worst I have slept in.
I have stayed there on 2 different occasions, and we felt secure. Personally, I wouldnt stay there again, unless I was in a bind and needed a place to stay, because it's too busy most nights. I like to leave the party. Also, my GF would prefer slightly better accommodations.
Great beach though. great food. We end up there almost every day we are in negril. It just happens.

Re: Where to stay - Decisions, Decisions
I personally thought the room at Bourbon that I booked was FOUL. Walked in and walked straight back out. Wish I would have brought a black light to see what the room looked like with the lights off.

Re: Where to stay - Decisions, Decisions
You have heard about the rest, now try the best.
Coral Seas Garden Hotel.
It is acroos the road, not on from the beach.
It is very clost to Times Square shopping Plaza and across the road from Bar b barn and Mom's Place.
2 beds in every room, very, very good housekeepers.
AC, newly surfaced swimming pool, cable TV, safes in room and they are guest friendly.
Check out their website and give the Manager a call.
Her name is Junene and tell her you are a friend of Markospoon from Chicago.
She will give you the best rate in town.
I stay there twice a year and love it.
It is family owned, about 28 rooms.
Some rooms have kitchens too.

Re: Where to stay - Decisions, Decisions
What can a markospoon friend expect to pay there?
-
Re: Where to stay - Decisions, Decisions
Well, I would guess about 40-50 U.S. A night (depending on the length of your stay).
You don't have to be a friend, but tell them Mark from Chicago sent you and you can't lose!
Enjoy it to the max.

Re: Where to stay - Decisions, Decisions
Marko what about Cotton Tree? Also what are your thoughts on a solo female staying at Jah B's?
-
Re: Where to stay - Decisions, Decisions
Tizzy you will be fine at Jah b's. They are really nice cabins and it is a family run place. We stayed in the last cabin towards the Morass and I loved it. Little kitchen, full bathroom with bathtub, and the porch view was beautiful. Chickens, Kittys, and Best of all the dog had 9 puppies and they were adorable. Rustic compared to Country Country but you can't beat the price.

Re: Where to stay - Decisions, Decisions
I'm good with rustic. ... slept outside on my last trip LOL But do they any security?
Sounds right up my alley, thanks Prism :)

Re: Where to stay - Decisions, Decisions
Hi Tizzy,
I don't know about those places.
I have been staying at the Coral Seas Garden for 15 years.
A solo female will be very comfortable at my hotel.
I just love it there.
Not fancy, but everything works and is very clean.
Since I don't need to be "on" the beach, the morass side is fine for me.
I just cross the road and hang out at the beach places, very easy.
The Owners are the Jackson family.
Gail from the Tree House is part of the family.
Alot of History there.
Brand new AC units and the pool was drained and being resurfaced last November when I was there.
I heard theyhave a new pool table too.
They have a limited menu from the kitchen, but there are so many places to eat very close by.
If you give the Coral Seas garden a try, you will be hooked.
The housekeepers are the best and your room will sparkle when they finish cleaning it.
Just tell them Mark from Chicago recommended you and you are in like Flint.
Take care.

Re: Where to stay - Decisions, Decisions
I'll keep that in mind and add to my list of "In-budget properties"
Thanks Marko, and thanks to the OP for starting this thread

Re: Where to stay - Decisions, Decisions
I have stayed at Jah b"s and describing it as rustic is very generous.Security there is sketchy to non-existent.I had no problem there with myself and twenty-two year old son.But I would be very sceptical about recommending it to a solo female traveller.Read some reviews on the net.On the other side of the coin, the food is very good and you are real close to the beach.

Re: Where to stay - Decisions, Decisions
Thanks to all for your replies and suggestions. This is definitely the right forum for all things Negril. I will look into Moonrise Villa and Villa Mora - 2 places I had not even heard of. Unfortunately Marko, Coral Seas is on the expensive side wanting $92 a night at that time of the year, but thank you.
I am still warm on the idea of Greenleaf Cabins and Miss Norma's Rooms but with the latter I might be extremely lonely (ahh poor me).
Thanks once again
