My soon to be wife and I are staying at Riu Palace for our honeymoon on 10/14 through 10/21. We have never been to jamaica. We are looking to get off the resort and see some of jamaica and find some cool people.
We are chill folks that are looking to drink some red strips, drink some rum, and smoke with the locals.
Anyone have any good tips or advise for some newbies?
Use red plates taxis,don't smoke in public as you can be arrested,definately get out and walk the beach and stop for cold Red Stripes at all the little places,do the One Love Bar Crawl,it's a blast and you will get to see the cliffs.What ever you do,have a great time and come back and share your stories with us.
saturday nites at Seastar, they will pick you up and drop you off, all u can eat buffet, excellent entertainment, abt $20.00 each, soon come
The Seastar will come to my resort and pick us up? Do they have any entertainment on Saturday night?

Yes Seastar does awesome entertainment every Saturday night.Probably find the fire right at your resort,we usually are asked before we get to our room the first day at most places we have stayed

Its your honeymoon and you spent good money to be at Riu. Enjoy what water sports, drinks, and food that they provide.Do Lemberts pub crawl . On one day-- taxi to Travellors Beach resort for breakfast , then walk towards Riu with various stops. eat a late lunch at Cosmos-- call for ride back to Riu. NEXT time skip Riu and get yourself rooms at a smaller resort. We are consistantly amazed at the kindness from everyone. The grass is easy and just as illegal as back home. Dont walk around with a joint behind your ear--seen that one.
Be careful don't inhale all at once you can miss your vacation without even knowing it..lolQuote:

Newbies? Your fairly quick on the "talk" mon' . then there's ...Irie, respect etc. you'll learn as you go. We have stayed at The palace, the club hotel, couples. All in Bloody Bay. When you are walking you'll more than likely come across one of the beach venders named Louie Lamoure, self proclaimed "King of the beach" . Or I say "King of the beggars". Anyhoo, quite a character. Have a cold Red Stripe @ The office of nature, & you'll find your fire there. Yeah AI's are nice {don't have to carry money, eat, drink to the max, etc.} but, we've found the smaller resorts are nice too. More local folks interaction, cooler vibes. I guess we learned as we went too. In Dec. will be our 10th Negril trip. Seastar & Tree House. We're from Minnesota too. Yes, like other posts stated. Do the Saturday nite Seastar party, Lenbert's party bus , Try the Thursday ladies night at The Jungle. Have the jerk chicken @ Best in the West. But, for this trip you paid for the AI palace, so what are ya gonna do? I think your next trip, you'll know. Congratulations on your wedding, have a great honeymoon in paradise. The Jamacian people are super nice. {we have many friends there now}. Smile lots, walk good, be aware of your surroundings, be respectful. Learn to say "No thanks, mon'". Do a sunset booze cruise. I think the Riu's bought the "Wild Thing". Be careful, if you jump off the cliffs @ Rick's. Hope my ramblings help. Good Luck. Evryting's Irie!
Honeymoon? Pub crawl. YS Falls. Booze cruise. Very late night monkey business on the beach(Its a honeymoon...) Smoke? Buy a big fat one that a Rasta is smoking,give him $5, you will make a new friend and it was the sweetest i tried. Breakfast coffee on the cliffs up on Westend road. Cosmo's for anything. Alfreds for rum punch. And finally, a comfortable chair,your beautiful bride, a cool beverage, your camera and watch the sun disappear. Makes me smile just writing this.

yes You should join some of us boardies at 1 or more of realnegril live web casts, Its a great way to meet up with alot of similar people and get a good feel for negril. You wont regret it. you can go to their site for info of what bars they will have a web cast at during the week
If you smoke regular at home you will find the smoke in Jamaica not up to par. While the price is right they just don't have the quality that there was years ago. You really have to look for good stuff. The stuff the export is much better than the stuff they sell on the street.
