Wedding "eve" dinner for hubby to be and I - suggestions please.....
Hi everybody,
We (N and I) are getting married in Negril on 2nd Decemeber 2013 (just over a week away). We (just the two of us) want to do something really memorable the night before our wedding. Requirements are: romantic, good food, good wine, good service, personal and extra special.
I did make a reservation at Ivan's but changed my mind. We are going to go to Ivan's, but not the night before our wedding. I have cancelled that reservation but haven't committed to which day we want to dine at Ivan's.
Has anyone on here had a "special occasion" meal somewhere in Negril that they would highly recommend?. I've trawled and trawled the internet and see pros and cons for many establishments (I know that's the norm) but this is a meal that I want it to be uber special. One major point I also have is that I don't eat fish (of any type) nor do I eat red meat (personal choice since horsemeat scandal) and I'm not good with spicy hot food.
I don't want to have to travel miles and miles and am not familiar with Negril (only been to the island once before) so any advice would be massively appreciated.
We are staying in Bloody bay, the furthest point from Negril. Also we will be needing a driver for this "dinner date" and for a few other (undecided on plan) excursions/outings. Any help or points, may I thank you in advance.
Thanks,
Sarah x

Hi Steve,
Thank you for your suggestion and reply. I will add your mobile number (cell number) to my address book (won't be using our UK phones in JA).
We would like a driver to make "friends" with and then to use that driver all the time when we are in Negril, build up a rapport so to speak. Respect

Kuyaba on 7 mile beach, since you won't be staying on that beach. They have a "treetop" table overlooking the ocean that is lovely and their food is excellent too. Another cliff option would be Rockhouse. They too have a special more private table that you can reserve.

Thank you. I will have a look at them.

SazO we did the 100 candle dinner T I and and it was great, to this day my wife still tells people about how I surprised her with this special dinner. Was there an issue with Ivan's, is that why you cancelled? They set you up away from everyone else, use candles to light the entire path &area, you have a dedicated waitress, and they give you a special printed menu with your names on it. Very romantic and done perfectly!

I have heard that the Caves allows people not staying at the resort to reserve one of their special cave dinners - http://www.islandoutpost.com/hotels-...-caves/dining/ About $300?
I've only looked longingly at their gate (the Caves), but it looks pretty amazing. Another option may be Blue Mahoe at the Spa. Reviews have noted that they serve a good steak, it's on my short list to try next trip.
The other recommendations are also excellent (Pushcart and Kuyaba) and Ivan's can be magical.

Chill Awhile on the beach may be a nice option. It's the restaurant at Idle Awhile hotel. I think that the best restaurants are on the cliffs, but CA has very good food. As for an excursion, we booked the cooking studio at Zimbali retreats.

Honestly, I can not think of anyplace better than Ivan's, either. That would be my first choice.
On the Beach, Kuyaba would get my vote. However, keep in mind that you can not reserve the "tree top" table. It it first-come-first-served (found that out when I tried to reserve it for my wife's birthday, once). The Blue Hahoe at The Spa gets good reviews, but I personally haven't been there. The Rockhouse would also fit your requirements, but is not as good as Ivan's, IMO.
Just Natural is a great idea, but on the completely opposite end of the spectrum. No doubt they will be able to cater to your every need, but it will be in a rustic, wooded and casual environment. You will want to call ahead to make sure they have wine or any other special requests.

This is a no brainer for me. 100 candles at Ivan's. One of the most memorable meals of my life. 1st class location, excellent personalized service ,great food and drink. @$200. US. Rock house has an outstanding location but I was let down by service and presentation last February.

DONE!. Booked the 100 candles!. After weeks of umming and arrrring I went ahead and did it, now I'm starting to relax a little/get into Negril mode I'm no longer acting like a crazy meerkat bridezilla!. (Weird description but it was so close).
Thank you!

Thank you. Made an executive decision and it always fell back to Ivan's but went up a level and doing the 100 candles option. Thank you!

Thank you very much. No, no issue with Ivan's, none whatsoever, just wanted something totally out of the norm, and decided on the 100 candle option.
Thank you so much for assisting in my decision making.

I have a restaurant in the UK so going cooking on holiday is a NO NO for me. I've heard of the farm to table class/demo that they do. Sounds really good. But not for me on my holiday lol.
Thank you for your help x

Instead of me personally thanking everybody individually and me getting confuzzled. Please may I take this opportunity to personally thank each and everyone of you for you excellent advice and help.
We've decided on Ivan's 100 candles! It seems I ain't gonna beat that- really looking forward to it now. I think I'd better avoid the cheesecake or else I won't be squeezing into my dress lol.
Thanks again all x

I think you made an excellent choice. I wasn't sure why you cancelled it in the first place. I personally haven't done this, but I have yet to read a bad review regarding it. It is definitely on my bucket list.

I didn't book the 100 candles initially, just made a reservation to dine at Ivan's. Then I thought I'd find a different establishment that did something really special.........the answer was in my initial reservation - just an upgrade required and job done!.
I will get some photos and leave a review either upon my return or whilst in JA (if the iPad works by the pool).
One week tomorrow it's not breakfast at Tiffany's - it's 100 candle dinner at Ivan's!. Uber excited :)
