Re: Canadians Please Help!
Small businesses in Canada are also struggling to survive. Many are closing never to reopen.

Yes, you are correct that small businesses all over the world are having struggles and many will never reopen.
Jamaica doesn't have a government support system in place for small businesses and we are trying a voluntary project to help some of them survive.
No one is forcing you to do anything. You can choose to help support the small business people of Negril, or you can choose not to and wait and see if they close, never to reopen.
The choice is yours.....
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to those that are able to contribute and donate.

The choice is mine and I choose to help support the small business people in Canada.
No one is forcing me to do anything.

Please help support your local economy! That is admirable.
But Negril being a tourism based economy, we don't have the luxury of local support since we are all literally in the same boat.
Once again, a big thank you from the bottom of our hearts to those that are able to contribute and donate to the small businesses of Negril.

Re: Canadians Please Help!
Lisa and Rob;
Thanks to you and any others involved in this initiative. I guess I take a selfish approach to this. We are fortunate to be able to travel to many different places but Negril is our “return often” spot. We return often because many of the people and places on the tee shirt have welcomed us and made us feel like we are appreciated. I do know it would not be the same vacation without the vendors supported in this campaign and many others we have frequented. I hope they all survive........because I want to be happy when I am there.
I learned a long time ago that life is not about binary choices so I choose to support both the small businesses in Canada and in Negril. And Lisa you are right, we are all in this together........
Hoping, fingers crossed for a pandemic breakout trip in the fall

ColdInNB...you made me tear up!
Your message is exactly how I feel about our situation here & in Canada as my heart is in both places.
As Rob said....there's no Gov't support for businesses here & Everyone involved is blown away by the help that is being given. Thank you so much ColdInNB!
Re: Canadians Please Help!
Thank you to all involved in this - keep up the great work Lisa!
Re: Canadians Please Help!
As Rob said, there is limited help for the business person in Negril. Our small businesses in the states aren't doing well either. We support them as much as the protocols allow; but also support the small businesses in Negril that we would be frequenting on trips that we haven't been able to take due to the pandemic. We have canceled 2 trips to Jamaica. We certainly can put some of the money we haven't spent towards our friends in Negril. This is a great opportunity to show these good people how much we care about them. Kudos and let's keep it going. WM

Covid is here to stay.
For those waiting to get back to the way it was, This is the new normal.
Economies that depend on tourism are going to be in trouble.
There is no simple answer.
Re: Canadians Please Help!
Vaccination!! Couldn’t be easier.

I'm sorry Airswift. This is crappy for all of us. As a fellow Canadian I see and feel your sadness. Some are calling this time the "Great Languish". It may seem that we are drowning but we do have hope. I am so proud to be Canadian at this time. I see how the government (all parties) are supporting the unemployed and the businesses and trying their best to obtain vaccines to end this terrible event. I feel for all the restaurant bar and hospitality workers and owners that have had to shut down. I am pleased to see the community support that has developed because of the Pandemic. There will certainly be a re-calibration of our economy in our future. I hope that the Americans finish their vaccination efforts soon so that the rest of the world can benefit from their vaccine production.
When I look at Canada compared to the rest of the world I see how very lucky we are!
My family has taken a lot from Jamaica. We have the most wonderful memories of time spent in Negril. When I'm lying on my death bed, pictures of Jamaica with my wife and kids and all the new friends that I have made because of Jamaica, will certainly ease my journey. The pictures will have not only the spectacular landscapes but the beautiful faces. The faces of the people that drove us, fed us, swept the beaches, sold us trinkets and smiled through our many demands. I'll always remember the faces.
They don't have the support system that we take for granted. So there are small things that I have found that we can do. Even if it is only confirmation to a hotel with a small deposit that gives them hope for the future.
I have successfully sent support to some friends directly to their banks in Jamaica and I know many Hotels are supporting their staff and families and offering food baskets to locals by themselves and with the help of donations.
Rob and Lisa have worked hard to provide a lifeline to support the people of our familiar haunts thru NegrilStore.com and a link to Father Jim's wonderful charitable organization. The appreciation shown on the videos is sincere. If 150$ USD is not doable, the link to St Anthony's accepts donations from 10$ up.
And when your time comes, get the vaccination so we can all meet up again!
Re: Canadians Please Help!
dash, I'm not sad just realistic and getting on with life under the "new normal"
