Bar on beach that seems inside a tree
I hope you guys can help me. My husband and I were in Negril 10 years ago and came across a very cool bar one night. If I remember correctly we had walked towards the cliffs from Treehouse Inn and this bar was so close to the water and seemed like it was literally inside a tree. Admittedly, we had already had a few drinks and it was quite dark outside. But, I would love to be sure we visit this place again when we return in March. Any idea what this place could have been?

Sounds like Tony's Bar....at the Gatehouse.

Re: Bar on beach that seems inside a tree
More than 10 years ago, Dr Bills?
-
Re: Bar on beach that seems inside a tree
I think Dr Bills went away in 2002
We were at CoCo in June of 2002 and the new resort was going up in it place.
If my memory is correct?

Re: Bar on beach that seems inside a tree
Well if it had t-shirts hanging from the ceiling, I'd say it was Tony's. Else, it could be the Woodstock bar?

Woodstock was not built yet....

Re: Bar on beach that seems inside a tree
Maybe it was the boat bar. It was dark, you were rocking and there is the large sea grape tree on the beach.

A definite possibility...

Re: Bar on beach that seems inside a tree
It was Oct 2011. I don't recall seeing t shirts hanging anywhere. And it was so close to the water there was no room for a separate tree. But im going to look that one up just in case. It's likely we were there at high tide because there some extra precarious places we walked along the beach...

Looked up boat bar...it was definitely not that...

Re: Bar on beach that seems inside a tree
The old For Real is a possibility where Sandy Haven is now. Wasn't the center of the bar an old tree? That and very near to the water.

Re: Bar on beach that seems inside a tree
For Real, a good possibility. Stayed there many years,,,,just can't remember when Sandy Haven opened up?

Re: Bar on beach that seems inside a tree
Does sound like the old For Real bar. That was always a happening place. Sandy Haven I think opened in 2012. Always was an interesting cast of characters there.

24/7 or was it 23/7 ?

Other possibilities...
Sun Beach before they moved & expanded their bar - or -
Kuyaba...though it's mostly a restaurant...they have loads of nice surrounding woodwork & swings at their bar.
But, it does sound like it may be the old For Real bar.

Re: Bar on beach that seems inside a tree
It kinda sounds like Kuyaba. It is kinda like a tree house .

This is Tony’s Hut in 2011,
Could it be the place?
-
Re: Bar on beach that seems inside a tree
Kuyaba is what came to my mind. Not built in a tree, though.

Re: Bar on beach that seems inside a tree
Most certainly the old ForReal (now Sandy Haven). It's only about 5 minutes down the beach from Treehouse. The old bar had a tree painted yellow in the middle of it. Bartenders were Maureen and Robert (now at Sunnyside). Popsi was the man with the plan during the daytime (believe he's still there). Stayed there many times!

Re: Bar on beach that seems inside a tree
Tony's Hut hasn't changed much in 10 years. We sat at the bar several times in February.

Can't really answer that except going back to 1975......
Tree House Club had the tree right through the middle of the bar .
Of course it also had the obligatory notice of their intention to appear in Sav to secure a license. Things change but remain the same.

Yes, I don't think Treehouse existed in 75.... 79 sounds right...
Not sure how this helps the original question though... lol

remembering a bar up some stairs in a tree in montego bay in the 70s, on the north end of the beach road. goats roamed freely back then and it was a quiet very quiet vibe back then

Re: Bar on beach that seems inside a tree
If you walked a long way, the deck at Travellers is built around a tree. Right next to the bar.
