An impressive store!
Thanks Rob. Did that really say $70 for a bottle of Titos?
Rob,
Any White Castle burgers in the frozen section?
As Luddy pointed out several times, the store is not fully stocked yet. But other HiLo's across the island do not carry those frozen belly bombs, although I have heard that Pricesmart in Kingston has carried them in the past. I was never able to verify this Slider situation.
Looks nice. I will be there this winter. New medical center and a new grocery store opening. wow!
Thanks for the video! Not bad for a soft opening. Will be great when fully stocked
Looking good. Glad it will be within walking distance of my hotel in December.
Kings Hawaiian - good to see, but won't need
Gluten Free Pizza (or any gf) - pass (though I recognize its purpose in life)
Wine - no wife this trip
Clamato - pass
Liquor - didn't see Jamesson, my go to at home, but I'm in Jamaica. No problem.
Deli - could be useful in December
Bully Beef - never had it. Might have to after Rob's endorsement.
Coffee - Was any of that true Blue Mountain? I feel like I got mugged forgot and ended up buying a pound at the airport last reach.
Imported Domestic (lol... I get it) - like my Jameson, I'm in Jamaica. Red stripe please (bottles).
Heineken Zero Zero - Pass (agree. what's the point? It's like a tie game. It seemed right the whole time, but there was no finish.
Ketchup (or catsup) - if only they sold Grace in 3.1 oz bottles.
Chicken - Kroger at home (and I live in the same city as their global headquarters) has limited stock too.
Seeing Luddy Samms as a human being.... just priceless. Great man and I appreciate how he has added joy to my life through music too.
Nice video, Rob. Thank you!!
Great video @Rob! Thanks so much for sharing and for all you do! Any idea what their hours are? Wondering if they'd still be open when arriving on an afternoon flight..otherwise may still with MegaMart
Thank you for posting - super helpful info!
Great video Rob! And then to just happen to run into the legendary LUDDY! Hope he found the right dog food.
And ValueMaster downtown has been a HiLo brand store for a bit, but it's now a HiLo. How 'bout that, Negril has 2 HiLo's
Rob i prob missed it but what does the wine selection look like compared to the mega mart ?
thank you
I have been to both Megamart and the HiLo in the last week. Megamart has more wine but the HiLo is no slouch in their options.
Hey Rob,
Does the new HiLo have any Bank ATMs (It's convenient to hit the Scotia ATM in the Megamart in Mobay)?
Does anyone know if that HiLo delivers to hotels?
Thanks Rob!
Years ago we brought two adult sons with wives for their first trip and chose Llentrissant, the colonial house in the curve just up the hill from the old Hi-Lo. The house was big enough for all of us and came with a small staff, including Ms. P. who ran the house and cooked. We talked with her about meals and then walked down to Hi-Lo and let her do all the shopping. I can still see the parade going back up the hill with four clerks in blue vests in line, each pushing a shopping cart and Ms. P. leading the way. I got in front to flag traffic, terrified that someone rounding the curve would wipe out the whole endeavor. All clerks received big tips (hazardous duty pay) and the rest of the stay was Irie. So, yes, under certain circumstances Hi-Lo delivers (Ms P. had a lot to do with it, lol).
This store looks great. Thanks for sharing.
ol'yardie.....great story!
Regards,
Bob
Value Master has been a HiLo for at least a decade. Their receipts have been carrying the HiLo brand name, prices were the same and they have been selling HiLo products such as their toilet paper brand, which can only be sold at HiLo stores.
They just updated the old, faded Value Master awning, now branded as "HiLo Value Master". So we get to keep our trusty Value Master store for a few more years at least! There are plans to renovate the downtown area, but that is definitely a "soon come" proposition.
I might have missed it but where is the new store located? Thanks for sharing Rob
Nice video. Thanks for the walk-through!
@prat sista.... It's located in the Boardwalk Shopping Village. It's generally across the street from Country Country, a little bit north of Margaritaville.
Thanks. For some reason I thought it was up the West End Rd.
The Hi Lo that closed was up that way. This one replaced it.
Wondering if the new Hilo sells sodas or waters in the flats of 24's or just singles?
Hey Rob did you notice if they had Diet Pepsi or Coke there (or Coke or Pepsi Zero)?
Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, and even Diet 7-Up for that matter haven't been on the Island for a few years now. I haven't seen Coke Zero in Negril but a friend landed a few weeks ago and found it at Progressive in MoBay.
As a diabetic I pretty much live on diet pop when I'm in Jamaica. For at least the last ten years I have almost always been able to find diet cola in either the HiLO or Quality Traders. It may be Diet Pepsi, Diet Coke or Coke Zero. You probably won't have a choice and it all sells out fast. I have never seen Diet 7-Up in Jamaica.
We were there last month and they had Coke Zero in the smaller bottles.
