Porridge / soup guy outside Mr. Chin's (Zang Wang) shop
Cap
Hey Cap! Can you please clarify location of porridge/soup guy.. Am not familiar with Mr Chin. Thanks!
Pork and dead chicken and soup are all equally good at "Best of the West". I think they might have ribs, too.
I'm not sure which porridge soup vendor Cap is referring to...
But about 10 years ago heading back up the West End Road aka One Love Drive late at night. Definitely way past midnight....
We pulled over in the route taxi for an old Rasta selling soup on the side of the road not far from Mandrake Curve...
He had the BEST porridge soup ever. Probably had two bowls...
Enjoy,
VVHT
His soup in July was cow foot / chicken foot combo.
Good it good mia tell you

We ate at Best in the West last month and were disappointed with the jerk chicken that we ordered. Their half chicken came in a styrofoam container with 4 pieces (wing, thigh, breast, and leg), a side, and jerk sauce in one of the partitions. We chose rice for a side and it was just plain white rice. The chicken was a little dry but it probably had been sitting for several hours as they had no customers. Our chicken pieces were all on the smaller side and weren't nearly as good as what we cook on our grill at home. The price was US $12 for the half. We later noticed that Ozzies (across from Negril Palms) has a half chicken for JMD $900 (about US $7) but we didn't eat there.
Im a fan of Ozzies, both the chicken and pork. If you catch Best in the West when they are busy and the chicken is freshly cooked, they're as good as anyone.
Cant go wrong with ozzies. Ozzie is a great man and comes from a great family. His parents were long time residents of Negril and the family still rents rooms on the beach right across the road. Wonderfull place, wonderfull people and great food.
Where is Ozzies? I've seen Ossies Jerk Centre - is that it?
I love Mr.Biggs chicken. He's on the beach road close to one mile (morass side). His chicken is beautifully spiced and always juicy.
I like both but usually get the chicken...

Looking for good porridge any suggestions?
Coletta's across the road from Rooms has delicious porridge-giant bowls, I had to ask for not the family size one lol!!
Love to stop just outside Mobay to see the Rasta and have some of his roadside soup and roasted yam and salt fish, absolutely amazing.

Noah has some good eats at his nice little cookshop in the lot right beside the taxi terminal; his cook Omar makes some really good fried chicken, the portions are huge, and it is local! Omar makes an amazing Jamaican brekfass also!

And, we love to stop just over the boarder of Westmoreland into St Bess, right on the first corner, to have some fresh fried fish and bammy and if we stop at the right time of year, corn on the cob! And have to get a few of those little sweet coconut treats with the red middle for dessert!
