The new rumble strips on the Beach Road...
are being placed from Travellers Beach Resort to the Azul. Work is about halfway done and the strips do not seem to produce to much of a "rumble". Personally I think the potholes are much more of a speed deterrent... some of those holes you could easily lose a tire.

There are also plans to make the raised medians more "visible" to keep vehicles from hitting them.
Re: The new rumble strips on the Beach Road...
I thought that speed bumps were being installed. Rumble strips probably won't have the intended effect. At least they don't "rumble" too much so visitors and locals aren't affected by the noise. But, if they don't produce much of a rumble, what's the point? WM

Not exactly the "sleeping policeman" of yore. Those things could tear the bottom out of a car going too fast.

With the Beach Road being a major way in and out of Negril, to place speed bumps (sleeping police) would be a terrible situation for ambulance traffic. That was never a real consideration.

True. I wondered about the speed bump information. Normally that is reserved for quiet, residential streets.

Hmmmm, the rumble strips have taken an interesting turn....
At meetings around town after the strips were announced last week, everyone said that the motorcycles would just swerve around them.
Well, it seems everyone is swerving around them including coaster buses. The "solution" looks to be extending the strips to the grass on either side.
The first strips put in down by Travellers were more true rumble strips but someone decided that the ones up by the new NCB Bank needed to be twice the height. The speed limit is 50kph, but hitting these babies at even 30kph will do serious front end damage.
The town, especially transportation drivers are upset....
Stay tuned for more about this fluid situation.
