Yes....I have...... but it was when I was lighting my spliff too close to my overproof rum..Ha! Ha!
I have seen it twice in 30 some years. My validation was getting back home and seeing posts from people seeing it on the same night. There are a few different places people report seeing it, one being Key West. I’ve only seen it from the beach not the cliffs.
I've seen it. On one trip a few years ago I saw it 3 or 4 times in a week. Otherwise have only seen it occasionally.
Sure have…January 26, 2019. Watching the sunset at Sun Beach. MiLady must have had the right amount of rum and got a lucky shot. Showed the photo to our artist friend Ras Husmo. A few days later, Ras gave us a special gift, Attachment 55974Attachment 55975Attachment 55976Attachment 55977this little painting. It has a special place on our fireplace mantel.
W &ML...great photo and wonderful painting. Now I know wasn't hallucinating when I was startled to see the green flash some years ago from the rocks at Sea Grape. I've only seen it once but I've always looked for it since. I've heard that you only can see it when there are absolutely no clouds between you and the horizon. As the sun hits the perfect angle to your eye the light streams through the top few feet of water like a prism for a split second.
Actually....quite a few times. Always amazing. Weathermon, Great shot....we have a few paintings from Ras also, interesting gentleman.
I've seen all sorts of things flash before my eyes in Negril, and not just at sunset !!
I always thought that those who claimed of seeing the green flash had a nice buzz on. It was probably 20 plus years of going to Negril before I saw it. Now we always watch the sunset, every night if we can, and look for the green flash on a cloudless evening. Mi Lady's photographic acumen is apparent in the above pics. If it were me holding the camera, I would probably drop it in the sand. Anyway, I have seen the green flash several times...."It does exist!". WM
We too always try to catch sunset. It's one of the highlights of Negril for us. I could swear I've seen the green flash in the past, but it happens so suddenly and rarely, that I wonder if it was just the booze / smoke, or did I really see that. Green flash or not, it's always the best time and place to be.
I've only seen the green flash once at Ricks Cafe, oddly enough. I'd always though it was a myth until that day!
Weathermon & Mi Lady...what a wonderful painting & memory for you both. Ras Husmo is a beautiful soul & artist...I was lucky enough to be a recipient of a special painting from him also.
We look forward to seeing him. Sometimes he's in Canada though and we don't connect. A few trips back, he and I sat under an umbrella at Sun Beach for quite a long time downing a few Stripes and solving most of the world's problems (This was before Covid, a tough one to solve). One year we bought a couple of abstracts from him and he says to me, "Robert, you know your gonna pay more to have these stretched, matted, and framed than you paid for the paintings." Boy was he right!
I was at Crystal Waters, leaning on the fence next to Margaritaville, watching the sunset. Kamil, the Crystal Waters guard, walked over and stood with me. He said "Have you ever seen the green flash?" "No, just heard about it." We watched silently, cloudless and a big, bright sun and at the last light, it popped. We just looked at each other. He smiled and said "Did you see it?" "Yes indeed!" Another very cool Negril moment!!!!Quote:

I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but what the are seeing and talking about here is not the "green flash". Please don't get me wrong, it doesn't take away the splendor of the pictures and of the painting. You ask anyone that has been to Negril and ask about their most memorable thing about Negril, pretty sure you'll get, "the sunsets" as the answer most of the time.
The last spectrum of light that the human eye see's is green. As the sun goes down, the very last tip of the sun is green, depending on cloud cover, moisture in the air, blah blah blah. "The green flash" is actually a flash, like a camera flash, above the last line of sun as it goes down. I have seen the flash, once in my navy days when I was 17-19 and once in Negril.

Saw it once , my wife and I always look and never believed until a very colorless sunset a few years ago ,The sun disappeared and flash we both saw it so I knew it was real we looked at each other high-fived and hugged. Looking for it one time I saw the waves turn green just before the sun disappeared but it wasn’t really a flash
at happy hours, sometimes I claim I can make anyone see the green flash....I give them a green heineken bottle and tell them to look at the sunset thru the bottle
