    Jamaica National Heroes Day

National Heroes Day is Monday, October 17th and there are celebrations held island wide all weekend to honour Jamaica’s seven National Heroes who are:

    Marcus Mosiah Garvey
    Paul Bogle
    George William Gordon
    Sam Sharpe
    Nanny of the Maroons
    Norman Washington Manley
    Sir Alexander Bustemante

Here is a link to a brief history of each:

It is also the date on which National honours are given to outstanding Jamaicans in all fields. Included this year is the late Dennis Brown, the Crown Prince of Reggae, who is being awarded the Order of Distinction.
