    Re: Mason the woodcarver

I was in Negril in January and was also looking for Mason. All of the vendor stalls on Mason's side have been removed and a few of them have been replaced by metal fabricated "huts". Mason's space is empty. According to the ladies who occupy several of these huts, Mason will return to the same location once his metal hut has been built. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of this, but that is what I was told. Those silver metal huts get very hot and were like ovens in January. Unfortunately, the vibe in Mason's place won't be easily replaced whether he returns to his new metal hut or not.

The area behind Masons shop (waves park?) was always fenced off with a open gateway. Is that all gone and if so why?

Mason is in a league by himself. For some of his larger pieces I once asked him where the inspiration came from. you know, some of the ones that look like they came from the book of revelations, he told me that he dreams of them.

When FOR REAL was still there, taking our guests on the tour to see his work was a must. I could literally spend hours in there looking at his work and just soaking up the vibe. Finally got him to do a small thing for me. he carved the logo for my villa.

We saw Mason at the Art and Craft show that was held at Woodstock from February 23 to 25 and we added another piece to our collection. Mason mentioned he was set up at one of the hotels on the beach. Can't remember which one. They are advertising another art and craft show for this summer.

We were in Negril a couple weeks ago and Mason was working under a tree at Beachcomber. He said he would try to be there a couple days a week.
He didn't have many carvings with him, too tough to haul I'm sure.
