Taxi from Kingston Airport to Northern coast (Oracabessa)

Thanks for all the contributors on this board. Lots of good info here.
Just a few questions before flying into Jamaica for a little vacation. I'll also mention I've spent some time in Ghana so I'm experienced in that culture which is somehow similar, it seems.
So when flying into Kingston, is it good to have a ride lined up before-hand to get to our Airbnb in Oracabessa? Or are taxis at the airport just waiting for a trip like that? Also, what taxi rate is normal? Is haggling common?
When wanting to take a road trip ourselves, I'm thinking car rental. Again, I have experience driving in other countries. I prefer local rentals instead of big name brand. Would a city like Oco Rios have car rentals? Or even in Oracabessa? Any recommendations on a good company?
I come from Canada. Canadian currency will probably need changed. Are banks best spot for that? I'm thinking the airport would probably have changers too.
Thanks a million and we hope to make it safely there in about a week.

Hi there, not many replies i guess, as most here do not travel to that area of the island. First off, i would not consider renting a car, is can often be more trouble than it is worth . Bad roads, accidents, parking.... I think taxi would be your best bet to get around. Being that Ja, like everywhere has been closed for a while, the taxis will be very eager to get fares again. Feel out a few different drivers ahead of time, and get a price.. or wait until you get at the airport. There will be plenty options there. Since you are staying at an airbnb, they might even have a suggestion for you. Good luck, have a great , safe trip .

There are taxis at the airport but it will be very expensive to get one to Oracabessa. Your best bet is to get the Knutford Express Bus from Kingston to Annotto Bay via Ocho Rios. https://www.knutsfordexpress.com/ It will run you about $25-30US per person. Once in Ocho Rios you can get a taxi or rent a car. Try https://www.islandcarrentals.com/ for a car rental.

They have Cambios all over the place. You will get a good price at the https://fxtrader.gkmsonline.com/ as well.

    Hope this helps.

As far as I know, there are no AirBnB properties under certification in the Covid Resilient Corridor, so the Travel Authorization on VisitJamaica.com may decline you.

If they don't decline you, they will may put you in the category "Non-residents visiting Jamaica and staying with friends and/or family". Here is a chart that shows that you would need to quarantine for 14 days. This is applicable until the 31st of July.

Knutsford is a great option. Used them many times. Banks are reducing face time with the tellers, so a cambio is your best bet. DO NOT exchange at the airport....

Thanks, Rob. Somehow I missed the detail that only certain hotels, villas, etc. are allowed to accommodate visitors. I rebooked with an approved villa.

Perfect. Staying in Duncans this time. Silver Sands beach. Looks like Knutsford express has service to Falmouth. Their departure times are not great for my schedule, but we'll see once. Thanks!
