    Vaccine Availability

Is there enough vaccine on the island for anyone who wants it to get it? Is there a lot of hesitancy.

There's not enough vaccines for everyone who wants to get them. Many people who got the 1st shot haven't been able to get the 2nd one. School age Jamaicans aren't eligible yet. But there's also a lot of hesitancy or ambivalence.

The available vaccine is used within days of being received. From informal talks with friends, I would think that those wanting the vaccine is about 70%.

But the next batches are more for those waiting for a second shot as opposed to the first jab.

One complaint has been the "blitz" vaccination where swarms of people descend on a single location to receive the shot. Practically a super spreader event by design.

The new strategy will be to go to the community directly and set up much more manageable vaccinations.

We have actually been called the day of one of blitzes to walk in for the vaccine. We were unable to make it in time, but those who signed up online and made appointments are a little taken aback by the walk ins....

But the bottom line is if more vaccine was available, more people would be vaccinated.

On July 30, Jamaica received 300,000 doses of AstraZeneca. That shipment basically DOUBLED the total doses delivered to Jamaica thus far.

I’m sure there will probably be a time when hesitancy becomes an issue (like other locations with plentiful vaccine availability), but for the foreseeable future the issue is vaccine availability.

Latest goal is for 65% of the population to be vaccinated by March 2022. But this would be dependent on receiving sufficient doses.
