    Passport processing time

We sent our passport applications in for renewal after the first of the year. The applications were received at the processing center on Jan 11th. According to the website, they were mailed today by priority mail. That's 7 week without paying for priority.

Just an FYI in case someone needs to renew soon.

I decided to try the new online renewal and submitted it on the 3rd of January and still have not received anything so that was no improvement over the old mail in system. The US needs to take tips from Jamaica - applied online in 2021 for my Jamaican Passport renewal and six days later FedEx was at my door in the USA with my new passport.

Well the killer is the May dead line for either passport or enhanced license for domestic travel. That's what's jamming up the process.

Due to Covid, they have moved that deadline back to May 7, 2025. But many people might not be aware of that.

Due to circumstances resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Homeland Security has extended the REAL ID enforcement deadline. The new deadline for REAL ID enforcement is May 7, 2025. Read the announcement.

Beginning May 7, 2025, every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, state-issued enhanced driver’s license, or another acceptable form of ID to fly within the United States.

We put our renewals in January 24th..Still haven't gotten anything and we paid for expedited processing..at the time it was 3 to 5 weeks. Called yesterday and they said if we didn't see a status change by Friday they would open a case on it...they said that with expedited now it could take 5 to 9 weeks..so plan accordingly..
