    Duties Question

OK, here’s the deal. I want to purchase a LCD TV here and bring it down to Jamaica!! I can get the same TV for half the price (Depends on the duty situation) I would like to know how the duties work and if I carry my receipt what will the duties and taxes be on something for about $450.00??

    Any answers Help

My direct observation, though not definitive:

Gifts need to be declared (with a 20% duty fee) only if over $500. Bring a receipt.

The "over $500" applies only to RESIDENTS (JA passport). If you're a visitor, you are specifically asked whether you have gifts or articles for sale, regardless of value - the determination is to made by the customs official.

    The form is at http://www.jacustoms.gov.jm/docs/n_C5Update.pdf

Duty rates are not available online. Do bring your receipt, in case you can get them to accept what you actually paid as the value, rather than what their chart has as a value.
