    Back to Treasure Beach 2025

We are under a month now until we hit the rock. Stayed in Treasure Bech last year for three months and it was perfect. Only reason we cut it short this year is our home is not available. It is still being occupied by friends and family of the owner who are still in the repair and rebuild stages after Beryl. We are doing 6 weeks on the Island with a bit of a twist. Start in Negril for a week at Negril Beach Club Condos. Found a decent price so will make up for the more expensive food and bevies for the first week, and cuts down on the travel time driving in! I really do love that beach as my love affair with the island started right there! Then a week in Belmont staying right on the water in Horizon Cottages Justine Harvey Suite. Looks like a perfect place to start the day with a swim and end the daylight with the sunset. Never stayed in Belmont before so will do a little exploring! Then March 1 we are meeting friends in Treasure Bech and have booked Serendipity Villa for the month. A walk to the water but has a pool to cool off in and has everything we could need. Is this where you have stayed, and will again this year Rumghoul? Anything we need to bring from home? Looking forward to our stay and as an extra bonus will travel home with and host good friends and their 8 year old daughter on March 30! Can?t wait to show them around Manitoba and all its prairie beauty. They are hoping we still have snow??.me not so much🤣🤣🤣. I think Bigbamboo will be first to hit sometime tomorrow? Please take a minute and let us know how things are post storm. By all accounts on other sites it seems they are wide open and ready for the season! And Rumghoul as well! We will pick up the end of it all and try to post and drop a line throughout our 6 weeks from various locations. And Johng we plan on starting on the north coast next year and work our way south as we have longed to spend time in Portland, the blue mountains but for what ever reason have not so will be planning that out! Cheers all, safe travels, keep the wind at your back and looking forward to seeing a few posts here!

    Cheers, Michael and Monica

Ps it is our 38 year anniversary on February 28. Being that we were married at the TWater in Negril was another reason to book into the Negril Beach Club as it was pretty much next door. All of our time spent back then was at that end of the beach, Bar b barn, Miss Gloria?s, tamboo tavern for pizza??ahhhh the good old days!

Godspeed to all of those who will be vacationing soon in sunny Jamaica. The Negril Beach Club was at one time a jewel on Negril Beach!! Although it has since then in some instances fallen into disrepair there are some units that are currently in great shape so it should be a great place for a week. Back in the mid 70's when pitching a tent in a yard was "IN" I approached the kitchen manager at the then Negril Beach Club when they had a very busy kitchen at dinner. I told the guy I was low on breads and could he work me a deal on a plate of food for a couple bucks. He said sure so every night I had a small table right outside the kitchen entrance and he would serve me up a big plate of rice, veggies and whatever there was in abundance that night. Some good memories!!

Treasure Beach is a can't miss regardless of the digs. I first laid eyes on it in summer of 1980 and it was a small sleepy little town compared to today. When you finally do get to the eastern North Coast over by Port Antonio and the Blue Mountains you will see why Errol Flynn and Ian Flemming once they landed never left. It still has that colonial charm from that era. Assuming that you would have a rental car you can traverse the mountains at Buff Bay heading north through coffee country and over the top and down to Kingston passing Strawberry Hill in the process. You might as well lighten your wallet with Chris Blackwell while there. Although I have never stayed I understand its pretty remarkable. The ride from Kingston to Treasure Beach is for the most part on the highway until Mandeville and it cuts through the heartland of the country. A very enjoyable ride!!

Please contribute trip reports when possible!! Have fun John

hey_mon - was wondering if/when you would be heading to JA. Sounds like a great trip once again. Belmont always looks intriguing when we pass through. Will look forward to your report. Yes we are headed to Serendipity in a few weeks staying for 2 weeks this time. It is a walk to the beach - we rent bicycles for a week to get around also. There is a goat path from up on the hill by the house down to the sports park. We took it last year several times - even at night after hitting karaoke at Fishermans. We brought headlamps which were very helpful getting around at night - even on the road. There is no TV so if you need something you can take a laptop - didnt matter to us. The owners are very nice - I believe they will still be there when you go. We found the place to be very comfortable.

Sorry it took a couple days to respond - we are in northern michigan and getting lots of snow so have been doing a lot of snowshoeing and it is bitter cold - so ready for some warm weather, sunshine JA

    Rumghoul,

Many years ago the world press had harsh words for Kingston and perhaps still do. Despite that fact I have enjoyed many trips there over the years and find Manley International far easier than Sangster to navigate. Like any big city if one were to walk around in a daze and clearly out of place there is a possibility of being somehow victimized. Dangling jewelry or otherwise playing tourist would draw attention but I have never had any kind of negative experience there. Many years ago there was passenger train service from Kingston to MoBay. Talk about a great trip although you could count on the train braking down somewhere along the line which could make for a long trip. Mavis Bank, a town at the base of Blue Mountain Peak is the coffee capital of JA. Several coffee factory's to visit and it's the gateway to the Peak. It would be well worth you time to check it out!!

We are back home in the cold and snow (at least there is some sun today!). Treasure Beach was fantastic. Great to see old friends and meet a few new ones. If you had never been there you might not know there was a hurricane that wreaked havoc just 7 months ago. Fish is expensive right now - fishermen have to go way out to find any, but lobster is very plentiful and cheap! Karaoke at Frenchmen has pretty much turned into a DJ, but there is karaoke at Evelyns bar on Fridays (we never made it there though). Fisherman has live music on Wednesdays which was a lot of fun. TB football team was home so we walked down to the sports park - they won, I believe they are undefeated. We also went to Sunset for the Superbowl - we didn't get there until the end of 1st half so a lot of people left due to the game not being very good but it was still a nice crowd and great setting. We rented bikes for a week - one day rode out toward Fort Charles - the road is pretty much non existent out past Sandy Rose. We rode out to Pon De Rock - good thing was almost no car traffic as road is so bad. We rode to Great Bay and had lunch at Lobster Pot which is always a treat. We also ate at Pan-A-Knock - best meal we had in TB!! Candice is such a good chef (she used to be at 77 West and then opened a place last year in Calabash. Now she is on Church Street - up by Rock Villa Guest House.

hey_mon - I believe you guys are headed to TB the beginning of March. We were disappointed that Lashings (very close to Serendipity) is no longer serving dinner - it used to be a quick walk over. The goat path is a quick way to get down to Calabash though - just make sure you have flashlights at night as the biggest thing is seeing where you are walking - there are two fences that you will have to go over, but they are low so not like you have to climb anything (I did it several times in a skirt and was good LOL). The ATM worked each time we went for cash!! I was told go during the week and it should be good and it was.

Well, I guess i better get to work - once again a great trip - Hey_mon - et us know how yours went when you get back!!

By the way - there is a website - treasurebeach.com and in particular https://www.treasurebeach.com/treasure-beach-weekly/ which has a listing of events taking place for the week, plus some other info on the website including pictures from the hurricane.

I would swear I've pulled many a sled full of winter camping gear up and down that rise. Is it near the entrance to the Sylvania Wilderness in the Ottawa National Forest? Usually scheduled trips to Jamaica right after those adventures. One of those trips was to the Buccaneer in Treasure Beach. Outstanding property designed by Sally Henzell.

Hey Odison! No it is a golf course in northern Michigan. Great snowshowing this year!!! Buccaneer looks like a great property - there is a new beach bar right by it.
