    West End issues

It?s been a year since we?ve been down. Last year the west end was having issues with inadequate water and deep, axle-breaking potholes.

Just curious if either of those issues have been addressed?

Also how many J$ for a beer on the beach (this year)?

    Rum,

I was down in November 2024 for two weeks and was pleased to see the progress made on the roads and water issues.
Don't recall seeing ANY water trucks delivering water in November.
There was some work done on the Seawall and road near the Corner Bar and in front of Mi Yard in Mary's Bay.

Best beer prices on the beach are during various Happy Hours, but beware, many of the Red Stripe specials are for the smaller bottle, not the traditional stubby bottle.

I don't recall the price at Red Dragon in Red Ground, but it was at least 1/2 the price on the beach. Some other bars I like to visit downtown are Rocky's Sports Bar (behind Value Master) and Spot Light (just after Scotia Bank on the way up to the West End Road). Always good to get the local vibe at these places.

    Enjoy,

    VVHT aka Happy

    Thanks Happy!
I just asked about the beach for getting an idea of what’s going on price-wise. I usually drink from the Corner bar and westward (also Red Dragon while waiting for the pork).

We’ll be there in a month and two days . . . but who’s counting (hoho)?

We were just up West End Road last night. The seawall beside Sunshine Plaza has been fixed and very nicely I might add, as has the bad part by Chicken Lavish. We had supper at Kool Vybes (which was fantastic BTW) and didn't see any water trucks go by so I'm thinking no water shortage yet, but that could change in a heart beat. Beers on the beach are $400-$500 and are still $250 at the Red Dragon. A 24 case of Red Stripe at HiLo is about $5000J so just over $200J each.

Just got back !! From staying in the West End.. The road out there was not too bad. Water seemed not to be a Problem. I was told that when they were building that New Resort ( The Princess ) It took a lot of water from Negril !! Causing water shortages.
Eating out was a lot more expensive we thought as we have been going to Negril for many years ! Red Strip was between $400 -$500 as mentioned. Sunshine Villa area is all remodeled and the Hi-Lo is really Fancy !! More Taxi's around the town I was told a lot of Folks lost their jobs during Covid and took up running a Taxi.. There was defiantly more traffic. Also Times Square was a Ghost town ! US Dollar exchange was about $ 150 Ja. or there about's. All and All still the same Negril we all Love !!

I don't think I saw one water truck on beach road the last couple weeks versus last year it was crazy. I saw a taxi hit a pothole yesterday as it was passing me and it hit the pothole and sounded like a bomb went off as the tire exploded and rubber and metal flew past. That will be expensive....

We were there last week. We stayed on the West End at HSH. There were no water issues there. The road seemed to be in a little better condition. There was a new (to me) side walk that would be wonderful if were extended. Red Stripes seemed to run between 400 and 600 J on the west end and were more on the beach. We had a couple of extremely good and inexpensive meals at Sandra's, Vinnie's and PeeWee's. I did not notice any difference in price for breakfast at Canoe or Xtabi both still seemed very reasonable to me. The road between Negril and Mo Bay seemed worse than typical with a lot of patchwork being done.
