    Still More Trip Report 2025

As everyone on this board can attest to, the food experience in Jamaica is one of the highlights of every trip. This trip was no different. I enjoyed many excellent meals at a variety of places. I always try to check out places I have not yet visited along with some favourites from past trips. This board is an excellent place to hear about the experiences of fellow boardies, particularly when it comes to off the beaten path or new spots.

Favourites visited in the past and visited on this reach include Sips n' Bites, where I had a few meals. Highlights included their Jamaican breakfast, which was very hearty and filling and a great way to start the day. Ackee and saltfish, pumpkin, breadfruit, yam, plantain and dumplings along with a glass of orange juice and a cup of coffee. All of the meals i have had at Sips n' Bites have been excellent but I will single out the stew beef on this trip. Incredibly tasty and tender beef/gravy with rice and peas and veggies. Yummy!!

I also visited the Sunrise Club for pizza, this time it was the Trilogy, the pizza with pepperoni, bacon and chicken, but each taking their own third of the pie and only mixing at the borders. Love it!! I visited Seastar and tried out the steak, which VVHT has raved about in some of his trip reports. It was very good, perhaps a little closer to medium than medium rare, but very tasty along with a serving of mashed and vegetables. Was great to see Chris and Francine again as I missed them last year.

Went to Canoe for breakfast 1 morning and had the pancakes with fruit and pineapple syrup. I don't know what kind of batter they use for their pancakes but it is to die for. Nothing like pancakes I've had anywhere else. While I was there, a large crew of around 15 came in. I noticed some of the people had a website on their clothing/hats and checked it out. They were all in from the beautiful schooner (at least I think it was a schooner) that had arrived in long bay. I saw the ship anchored in Mobay on my way to the airport 6 days later. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see it with the sails up.

Some Negril institutions that I had never eaten at but had the pleasure of visiting this trip included Pablo's, Chicken Lavish, LTU, Swordfish, Colettas, and PeeWee's. Pablo's was the shrimp pasta, which was very tasty/enjoyable. Met a woman there, originally from Italy but now living in Seattle. Had a nice chat while we were ordering/eating. Chicken Lavish was the most tender pork chop I have ever had. No knife necessary!! Absolutely amazing. LTU was the schnitzel, I believe the Vienna style, without the mushroom sauce along with pumpkin soup. Absolutely loved it and the vibe. Now I know why it is a favourite of many of you boardies! Great atmosphere and I saw how much Luca cares about his customers. Swordfish was a lobster dinner, which did not disappoint. The flavours from that meal were still percolating in my mouth 15 minutes after finishing. Great venue! It was a little breezy that night, so the upstairs wasn't open for dining but I checked it out while having a puff. Awesome place. At Coletta's, I finally, for the first time, had a whole fish, steamed to perfection. There is a method to eating a whole fish, which took about half the fish to discover, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely have it again. At PeeWee's, I had the classic, jerk chicken with rice n' peas and veggies. Great food, great vibes and great portions! Also had the pleasure of chatting with Karl Ricketts as he was hanging out there at the time. As luck would have it, I was wearing my I Love Negril shirt, which I believe is why he came over to chat. Super nice guy.

OK, enough typing, time for pics.

Yeah, the pork chops at Chicken Lavish are great and always tender. Try to get there sometime when Doc has conch soup, another one of my favorites.

    rjonson,
Do you remember the Conch Soup at Cosmos back in the day? Every morning I used to run the beach heading North from Gloria's Sunset Cottages up to the Negril Beach Village (Before it became Hedonism) and then turn around and walk back south stopping at Cosmos for a big bowl of Conch Soup w/ a big piece of bread and a freezing cold Red Stripe to wash it all down!!

For me, Cosmos was always about the fish and chips.
