Hmmm, good news!
I checked with a canadian bank yesterday, the exchange here was 73.53, a significant difference.

what are the rates offered at various locations? Airport, bank, roadside cambios etc?
In order of the best rate received it typically goes like this:
Cambios
Bank
Airport (Airport is always the worst rate, I would avoid that one if at all possible)
The exchange rate at the banks in Canada is a rip off!!!! Wait and exchange at a cambio.
Trip #59 most of February
We always get at least a 100 CA changed over before we leave. That way we always have some JA cash handy for our arrival the following year. Works out great...especially if you arrive on the weekend when the cambio is closed.
Simon and Cindy .. good for you guys ..you'll have a blast .. you will SAVE a considerable amount of money by converting and making most of your purchases with Jamaican currency .. always a good idea to memorize the exchange rate... as it stands now you can almost treat every 100 Jamaican dollars as 1 CAN or US dollars .. Of course larger purchases such as transportation and tours will do well with Canadian or USF's .
Negril/Jamaica is not dirt cheap .. be prepared to pay Canadian like prices during your stay...ENJOY !!!! and remember ..NEVER change funds on the street .. my practice is to use an ATM every few days so as not to be burdened worrying about too much cash ..the scotiabank ATMS will dispense both/either Jamacain and USF's
Simon and Cindy....bring Canadian money to change over to Jamaican. It's about an 80:1 exchange right now for easy computing. All your food, drinks and route taxi fares can be paid in Jamaican. Only spend your US for airport transfer, day trips and souvenirs. If using the ATM, watch out for fees that your bank may charge on top of the exchange rate! We usually just change our Canadian cash at the cambio.
