    Hummingbird Recipe

Anyone out there have a good recipe for a Hummingbird that they would like to share? I'm trying to recreate the one that Maureen (formerly from For Real) makes. It's been a couple of weeks since I've had one of hers and sure would like another.

While on the beach we liked to start our mornings off with a Hummingbird or Dirty Banana before hitting the Red Stripe.

Maureen does make good dirty bananas! I've never been able to make a dirty banana at home that even closely resembles one in Jamaica. I recently found those little honey bananas, though, in a Caribbean market here, and those seem to taste a little more authentic. Here is the recipe I've used (1 serving, but I always quadruple):

1 ounce rum-based coffee liqueur (Tia Maria)
1 ounce rum cream or Bailey's-type liquor
    1 ounce dark rum
2 ounces milk (sometimes I use vanilla ice cream)
1/2 ounce simple syrup (a mixture of 1/2 water and 1/2 sugar that is simmered until sugar is dissolved)
    1/2 banana
    1 cup ice

    DIRECTIONS:
Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend for 1 minute, or until desired consistency.

Bobmac, Maryann has pretty much nailed it...although, you can easily omit the hassle of making/adding simple syrup, and just add a bit more Tia or Rum Cream(very sweet)...I've seen them made with/without actual rum...but always make them with myself, for a stronger booze component.....Dirty Banana vs. Hummingbird is really just a color preference(subtle flavor diff)...have always seen a "strawberry syrup" added to the hummingbirds, but can't really find one in the states....what I did was get some grenadine, and mccormick strawberry extract, and pour/mix it into the grenadine bottle....works good ..enjoy
