I wonder why you don't see Pumpkin soup on more menu's in the US. So many people are missing out on such a good thing!
Oooh I agree Mr Twister
There is a restaurant in Clearwater called GrillSmith that has "Caribbean Pumpkin Crab Bisque" and it is TO DIE FOR!!!!!!!!!!!
Other than that I can really only get it at the Jamaican restaurants or in the packets at the caribbean food markets.
Raul has done a pretty great job though recreating it at home! Lucky me!
I bring a bunch of those pumpkin soup packets home with me......but not nearly as good as the fresh made. I'm sure the caribbean air doesnt hurt the taste any....lol.
Haven't tried making it fresh yet...........but will
Yeah, the packets are definitely not quite the same
But I think the real trick is that everything in Jamaica is so fresh, all the fruits and veggies and everything, so fresh and sooooooooooooo good!
I think it's not the same kind of pumpkin, either. I liked last night but preferred kuyaba's.
I could be wrong but I always thought in JA pumpkin is what we call squash
It's in the same family as squash. The pumpkins in Jamaica are the green pumpkin
Jamaican pumpkin is definitely not the same as what we refer to as the Jack-o-lantern pumpkins, the ones we carve at Halloween or make pies out of....the ones in Jamaica are defintely much more like a squash
Ah you are correct
It appears the west indian pumpkin is actually also known as the Calabaza Squash

Most I have seen were green but from this article it appears they range in color
That was a good lesson, but now I REALLY want some pumpkin soup!
