Sitting at the base of the Cockpit Mountains near the town of Catadupa you will find Croydon in the Mountains, a 132 acre plantation historically notable as the original home of Sam Sharpe a National Hero of Jamaica.
Croydon is a horticulturalists dream with a wide variety of plants found only in Jamaica but also many varieties from the 4 corners of the world. One example is the 18 varieties of pineapple grown there. Visitors are treated to a guided tour of the plantation as well as a Heritage Tour leading the visitor from the days of slavery and Sam Sharpe on through Nanny of the Maroons, Bob Marley and Michael Manley plus many more.

A guided tour also includes a Jamaican lunch and a wide variety of fruits to sample. You can even pick them from the trees yourself. You can find out more by going to Face book “Jamaica Marquee Tour” or to www.jamaicamarqueetour.com (which is currently under construction). To find out more you can call the Management at: Adrian Bayley-Hay 299-9299. Guided tours are available from Montego Bay Freeport or a pick-up from your hotel in Montego Bay.

I have been to a lot of beautiful and peaceful places in Jamaica but Croydon in the Mountains ranks among my favorite places to visit.
