Clean Beach in Negril Jamaica

Clean Beach

August 19th - 22nd, 2015

There has been much talk recently about the floating seaweed mats that have been fouling certain beaches around the Caribbean. The AP News reports "Clumps of the brownish seaweed known as sargassum have long washed up on Caribbean coastlines, but researchers say the algae blooms have exploded in extent and frequency in recent years. The 2015 seaweed invasion appears to be a bumper crop...". Well rest assured, our beautiful Negril Seven Mile Beach is clean as can be, there is no seaweed invasion nor has there been over the years! Of course, you will see it after any rough seas, that is how beaches are formed. But that is not what the AP article is talking about. The article is referring to a "new" (since 2011), consistent algae/seaweed (no rough seas required) pile ups on certain beaches and those mats floating around the sea in large living clumps, and this is making some people cancel their trips to the effected destinations. But you do not have to worry about that here in Negril because as you can see in today's Negril Today picture, our beach is clean as can be! So come down and enjoy our beautiful Seven Mile Beach!
