Worth going to Booby Cay Island outside of lobster season?
I was thinking about taking a boat ride over to Booby Cay island on our upcoming trip. A few years back we did a little snorkeling trip with one of the boat captains near our hotel so I thought we'd ask him about taking us over there.
From what I see, the main draw of the island is the lobsters they will cook up for you. Problem is, I'll be there in late April when the season is closed. I know there are plenty of people who still buy lobster when they shouldn't, but I don't want to support that. I know there is still the lobster guy trying to sell his catch along the beach, but do people still sell on the island as if it is open season? I've read TA reviews where people seem to eat lobster all year long there. I'm surprised it isn't enforced better, if that's the case.
My question is, will there be anything worth doing over there that time of year? I don't need to snorkel; I'd rather just float around in the water and lounge at my hotel. But if there was someone cooking up lunch, it might be fun to stop by for an hour or so. If not, I'll anxiously await the Patty Man and Dean's jerk pork!
Any thoughts?
Re: Worth going to Booby Cay Island outside of lobster season?
i did it a couple of years ago, other than the lobster , it was just ok, the sand on the beach is not as nice, it is quite rocky getting out of the boat walking to the island, snorkeling is just ok, i saw major red ants on the trees where people hung their towels and bags to keep them off the ground, so if you do not snorkel, or no lobster, would i recommend it, probably not, soon come

"In Jamaica, the annual close season for lobster runs from April 1 to June 30, during which time it is illegal to harvest lobsters.
However, from April 1-21 businesses may process, sell and export lobsters, after which it is illegal to trade in the crustacean or have them in one's possession."
We were there end of April into May last year and they were still being sold on the beach (just 1 of the guys) and some restaurants still advertised them. Anywhere that was still selling them is off my list of places to go...

last time I visited during non-lobster season, they were cooking other food. It was worth it.

We went, during lobster season and decided to try the fish. We enjoyed it, the boys out there are fun to meet, and love to cook on that grill! It's an experience.
