Re: Traveling with lighters
I brought about 10 lighters home as gifts 2 weeks ago. I had several in 2 checked bags, a few in my carry on and at least 1 in my purse. My checked bags were opened apparently as I had Delta zip ties on the zippers of my checked baggage. I thought my lighters may have been confiscated but they were all there. They used to ask if anybody had lighters in the security line but they haven't asked in a few years.
Re: Traveling with lighters
I usually show up with roughly 10 lighters each trip, and am lucky if I go home with one. On my preferred airline they only have a quantity limit if flying to Japan. I cannot speak for any other airline, but this is what AA advertises. I also just returned from Europe and passed thru security in London and Amsterdam and had no issues either.

Bring your lighters, in your carry on. No issues.
Re: Traveling with lighters
we sneak 1 lighter in my carry on, then the rest are in a suitcase, never a problem, soon come
Re: Traveling with lighters
Probably just the FAA and TSA don't know what they're talking about, then.
I wonder how it works when the security lines are run by TSA employees but your airline says they have different rules?
Re: Traveling with lighters
I bring BBQ lighters with me in the checked bags as well as regular lighters, in my purse just to see if i can get away with it never a problem , but once i had a half a tube of Rembrant toothpaste , and a half a jar of expensive face cream, and that was to much so i had to get rid of one, i just don't get it.
Re: Traveling with lighters

I don't think you are sneaking it, I am sure they see it during their scan. On our recent trip I got to security and realized I had a lighter on me. I showed the security person to hand it over and was told I was allowed 1. I don't remember but pretty sure it was at MoBay on the way home.
