Rather than hijack another thread with more posts on this topic, I'll start a new thread (which also may help with searching).
Flying from the US, one cigarette lighter may be carried on your person or in your carryon bag. No lighter containing fuel may be in checked baggage. If they are completely empty, lighters may be in checked bags. No fuel containers (either lighter fluid or propane) can be either carried on or in checked baggage.
Pocket torches, blue flame lighters, etc. are explicitly forbidden. I know some people who carry cigar lighters that would not be allowed under the regulations.
The FAA site says only one lighter may be carried on; the TSA site doesn't say only one (but who knows what rules they will enforce at any given time).

From Jamaica, my experience is that lighters are not allowed to be carried on. I don't know whether there are Jamaican regulations about lighters in checked baggage.
The FAA page references DOT regulations about hazardous materials. These regulations can be enforced at either end of your trip. If for some reason Customs searches your checked luggage on your return to the US and finds hazardous materials, you can be charged on arrival. So it's not just "whew, I made it onto the plane."
I know some people advocate bringing bunches of lighters as gifts. You may want to consider that there is apparently no legal way to do this. I'm pretty certain lighters are available for sale in Jamaica if you need them.![]()
